Mother in Law was house sitting..got the pics the other day. Turned the hens free range this week to conserve on the food and water I left for them and sure enough.....They were older and were gonna be turned out this summer anyway with new ones due in this week, but I figured theyd last a little longer than this.
Ms. Red and clan made quick work of them in one morning mid week. Reckon I need to spend a little time closer to home next fall or find a competent snareman...

when your head hits the pillow, think about all those locations that you should have set.
after this tall glass of water, i'm done till noon tomorrow.

Bet you had a little feed left over huh? [hihi]

Mine are in a run now. Even have netting over the top to keep the Redtail at bay.

Go find a friggin squirrel you red bastard!

That sucks. I watched a red take one of my roosters once. I couldnt get out of the house fast enough. He had it in his mouth and dropped it when I ran outside. chicken was dead with feathers everywhere. Another time I had a door that the chickens could jump up and come and go as they pleased. This worked for a couple months until the fox figured it out. One day I went in the coup and every one was dead. I set a snare on the door and Mr fox came back the next night to grab another meal. That was last mistake. I gave his mangy hairless ass #4 buckshot.

Friend of mine called me the other day and said something got in and killed 8 chickens. They rome free and then they go in for the night and he locks them up but that night he didnt get home till 10pm to do it. The next morning 4 were dead in side the coop and feather and part all over out side. One was a big rooster they took 40 yards and ate most of it. I think it has to be fox and not **** cause how much they ate. Feeding the pups time. Got a new spot to trap this year.

when I had chickens in PA I put snares around the outside of my penned in area. The yotes and foxes would walk around the chicken wire and pull the chickens thru the wire what a mess! Once in a while I shot a fox or yote but mostly the snares worked better than me and my .243
