Sounds identical to a big buck I shot at 40yds 5or 6 years ago. He dropped and ran hard but very low to the ground. I was so excited that I started searching within 15 mins and beleive I bumped him. I didn't find any blood for about 50-60 yds but then it was a great steady trail for 100yds. Then the blood stopped. But sounds to me its either 1 lung or liver (which I beleive what happened to me) good luck and I know its tempting but keep those ranges for Muzzleloader, bow shots at that distance is too risky. Wait till morning, where ya located? Maybe someone can help in the am

^agree. I dont think its gutshot, I gutshot one before and it ran 40yds, stopped, looked around and walked off. Sounds like you hit liver and hopefully back of lungs. You should have gotten a pass thru with a gutshot as there are no ribs. Sounds like your in the ribs which most likely means you hit some kind of vitals. Dead deer and hopefully you didn't push him while looking for blood. Good luck in the am, go to where you hit him, and walk towards where he ran and look very close for blood. Zig zag 20yds either way till you get on the trail. From there, you should be able to follow the blood but keep in mind, the bloods gonna be dry and hard to see against the leaves as to fresh blood that shines when its wet
