Well.. He ain't to big yet!! but with the help of a rehabilater(sp) Hopefully he will be someday.
Story...
I was working near Swartswood Lake today and I kept hearing a sound that resembled a predator call but a short one note cry. After hearing it about 5 or 6 times. I realized it was a fawn. I was working outside, but far enough away from it that I was sure the mother would be back to feed it. As I was eating my lunch I noticed some buzzards flying around. That's when I started putting two and two together. I waited for them to land and walked over to the hay field that was by the road. Sure enough...There laid a dead doe.[down]. I checked her out and she was lactateing.
Now I was pretty sure that 'Momma' was hit by a car and the fawn was orphined.
I went back to where I heard the crys and soon found a very tiny fawn !!! It was the smallest fawn I've ever seen.
I called one of the Wildlife control guys, that I know and he said to drop it off at his house on my way home and he would take it to a rehabilatater.
I continued working and as the day went on the cries became more desperate. I picked up the tools and called it a day. When I went over to the fawn it was laying streched out and not moving. I gave it a nudge and it started making sucking motions with it's mouth. I could see little circles on it's head...Sure enough it was a little buck.
When I get to the Wildlife control guy house he was amazed at the size of the fawn, We both agreed that it was smaller than most fawns are at birth !
I have my doubts that he is gonna make it. He kept his head held back and his legs were splayed. His eyes were always open but no movement.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the little guy.
Sorry about the pics...My cell phone is all I had.
Here he is on a tailgate !!! TINY!!!
