Since I dont have a slug gun I think this bear season is a good excuse to get one. Im between the h&r 20 or the savage 220. I like the idea of 3 rnds even though I understand that I more than likely wont need it, due to how accurate both guns are. Any help or suggestions would be greatful.

Cant go wrong with either one. I have an H&R20 gauge with a Leupold scope...shoots nice with Remington accutips.

Im not a gun expert, better ask BCsaw he knows alot about stuff like that[ko] He always has something to say in regards to buying/selling hunting equipment....hes pretty much an expert..you know, buying a bunch of stuff and never hunting then selling it all.

Im using my 20ga. H&R i don't have the heavy barrel and it shoots great, i personally like the heavy barrels on guns i'm gonna sit at the range and put hundreds of rounds through in a day, don't think it matters on a hunting gun.. That is just my OPINION

I would like to hear from some savage owners. i know ive read alot of people having them. I want to see if they figured out away to fix the ejection problem/ scope mounting prob

YES ... 20 ga. is a legal weapon for NJ bear hunting (slugs only).

Last bear season 20ga. weren't allowed.

INCORRECT ... the 20 ga. has been a legal bear gun in NJ since the 2003 season.
The only change in legal firearms this year (2010) is that they dropped the minimum caliber muzzleloader allowed from .45 .44 caliber.


(the following is the exact text from the bear hunting regulations in the 2003, 2005, & 2006 NJ Fish & Wildlife Digest - Hunting & Trapping Issues):

"Firearms and Ammunition Legal For Bear Hunting:

Shotgun: not smaller than 20 gauge nor larger
than 10 gauge with rifled slugs. Lead, lead alloy
or copper rifled slug or sabot slug. Buckshot is
prohibited.

Muzzleloader Rifle: single-barrel, single
shot rifles not less than .45 caliber. Flintlock,
percussion and in-line ignitions. Double barrel
muzzleloaders prohibited. Persons hunting with
muzzleloader rifle must also possess a current and
valid rifle-hunting permit."

last time i spoke with the lightfields rep they told me they would have a 20 gauge heavy duty slug made for bear. just for this jersey season. I have to shoot him a email to see if its out.
