put an awesome heart shot on another doe tonight. it sure feels good hunting for me and the excitement of the hunt it self. I saw a big 9 pt tonight. circled me three times and bedded nearby. then 6 doe came in and the doe I wanted to shoot came in like 8 yards slam dunk. it feels so good to enjoy hunting again. friends and prostaffers asked me why didnt you hold out for the 9. thats simple. whats thay saying... a bird in the hand is worth 3 in the bush lol. feels so good

Very cool! And I beg to differ....there's been plenty of times I wacked a doe and the next day I had a shooter buck in the area again. Hell I've even hada big buck stop and sniff a gut pile once. But who cares maybe he wants to have fun and wack some does. That's good herd control. Filter out a bunch of does leave more food for bucks! I don't blame u a bit man. Filming is all about shooting big bucks year after year and gets old with the pressure its nice to go out and fling few arrows with a buddy just for fun and meat for the freezer![up] good job bri! Do what u wanta do your not in the colt anymore

Good for you man! I think these other guys should take ur words to heart about getting back to what hunting is really about. They are just in it for the antlers and not the experience. Your thread is really refreshing. Thank you[up]

"Anyone can shoot a doe every time they go out"

Realy? On what planet?

If your "friend" is fortunate enough to be able to fill his freezer with venison from does that's his business. Let him hunt the way he wants, you hunt the way you want.

The guy don't need to be publicaly ostracized from a "friend" because he is sucessful and happy for what he is achieving.Sounds like you are jealous of his sucess.

i dont care what he shoots and obviously he is happy with his doe. so great but if i had a super nice buck in the area I would try my best not to disturb it. but he might not care, which is fine. do what makes you happy!

To me its warm out, im by myself and I dont feel like dealing with shooting a doe. Flys and crap landing on it, etc I just dont go for it. Tag it, gut it, drop off bow & pack, drag it out, get it into truck, drive to check it, drive to butcher and finally get home.

TO ME! the fun is being in the woods regardless of if I see a group of does or nothing. I dont usually shoot anything. But maybe your situation is easier and check stations are closer, and butchers next door. I dont have this luxury...

But if your not seeing deer you need to move your stand or try a different spot. or if your new ask for help.

mtmebnj good points but for me its not all about antlers this season. I have a hunt booked in illinois in november to hunt antlers. I will not speak disparragimgly about no limits outdoors. I have a lot of respect for them and what they do. I just need to get back to hunting like our ancestors did. I have been reading a lot of meditations of hunters of our ptast and its helping alot

Um, I've been thinking, Brian; we would make a great team. I'll come hunt your properties and we can employ a combined effort, ill shoot all the bucks, you shoot all the does; that would make is both happy. Just like our ancestors, we shall collaborate, devise a plan, then, employ said plan...ya know, since you don't like shooting bucks. Haha just playing bro

One of my favorite meditations that I have been reading recently.
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted…If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job
Jose Ortega y Gasset,(May 9, 1883 – October 18, 1955) wrote Meditations on Hunting which is still the most quoted piece of literature on hunting.

The truth be known, Brian, more people should get back to hunting like our ancestors did. Even our most recent ones for the sake of hunting as they knew it.

You don't have to prove anything to anyone. It is not a competition as so many make it out to be. Shoot what makes you happy.

Aldo Leopold, in A Sand County Almanac is well known for this quote:

“A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact.”

When we still had signatures this is the one I used from another meditation.
“No matter what happens, whether you succeed or not, if you stand up and do it right and pay attention, hunting will always give you what you need. It may not be what you were looking for, but it will absolutely be important enough to justify whatever you did to get it.”

while many of these quotes are over a half a century old its amazing how applicable they are to these times
