Went to Round Valley and trolled a lap around the lake from 9 to 2. As I docked the boat in the gravel waiting for the people in front of me to to load their boats, 3 more boats on people docked to the right of me, and decided to load their boats up before me.

However after not a bite all day, 2 large shadows swim in to the shallows near the dock, I ripped the lure off my trolling setup and retired quickly on a spinning pole and cast at the fish. First cast, they look at it, 2nd cast, nails it and a intense drag peeling fight ensues.

After what seemed life forever, I was stepping backwards to get the fish far enough on land so it couldnt slip off. This whale of a rainbow, laid sideways on the sand, glimmer came from its lip. A RVTA jaw tag. After weighing and some pictures, I saw the fish was ,laying eggs. So I pulled the tag, resuscitated the fish for 10 minutes until it was kicking strong again. I opted to not take the fish home and smoke it or get it mounted, and it lives to fight another day.

P.S. What do i do with an RVTA jaw tag? Do I get a prize?

if you join the rvta at the end of the year they do tag drawings and give prizes away. bows and browns wont spawn in there only lake trout will.

As of now there isn't any trophy Trout drawings for 2016 trophy Trout tagged fish. It may change so keep tag handy. You do need to be a member or join for your tag to be eligible. If the tag says join rvta it doesn't have any prize value other than you caught a nice fish.
