BY THE US. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE
Two Illinois men pled guilty today to allowing a non-resident customer to illegally kill a trophy white-tailed deer during a hunt at Golden Triangle Whitetails in Pike County Michael Pavlick, 54, of Orland Park, was fined $15,000, and David Van Milligen, 58, of Mundelein, was fined $5,000.

The plea was accepted in U.S. Distinct Court, Central District of Illinois, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Byron Cudmore located in Springfield.

Pavlick (pictured at right), the owner of Golden Triangle Whitetails, and Milligen, a guide at the business, each pled guilty to one misdemeanor violation of the Lacey Act. The Lacey Act is a federal law established to protect wildlife from commercial exploitation.

In November 2006, a New Jersey man killed a 12-point trophy deer with a firearm on land operated by Golden Triangle Whitetails, in Pike County. The New Jersey man had an Illinois deer permit which allowed the killing of an anterless deer, not a buck.

After shooting the deer, the deer was not immediately tagged as required by law. Pavlick and Van Milligen supplied the man with an Illinois deer permit issued to Van Milligen which was then placed on the 12-point deer.

Van Milligen falsely reported to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that he killed the deer. This deer was then taken to a taxidermist where it was mounted for display. Van Milligen signed the taxidermy records stating that the deer was killed lawfully by him. In February 2007, Pavlick arranged for the deer mount to be transported to another state for display at a sports and outdoor show.

[wallmad] glad he got fined. idiot

I was thinking of using this outfitter he's actually a really nice guy and had some tremendous quality buck harvests. I can't imagine that he would let this slide and it doesn't add up. He doesn't offer doe hunts if you look on his website. From what I understand he fired his head guide maybe he was involved in this and thats why he was fired. Why would the guy go on a hunt with golden triangle without a buck tag? Wierd.....

He guys...read the comments thread after the article...WOW! I work a couple of shows each year where Mike also exhibits at, will be intresting to see if he is there this year.

For those of you now reconsidering hunting with Golden Triangle, CALL ME! I have a great outfitter in Illinois that has been in business since 1991 and has never had any problems with the law. In addition, I can put you in contact with many njhunter.com members who have hunted with my outfitter.

For more information on these Illinois Deer Hunts visit my website or call me for more details.

As of today, I have 3 spots left in Pike County archery 10/30 - 11/4, GREAT begining rut week!

i went out there in 2007 and what a joke that place was. The guides did nothing for you. they could care less as long as they got a tip. i asked for maps of the 1,000 acres i was hunting and they told me they had none. im glad they got fined. their business is sh*t. dont waste any of ur time going there.

Trust me, this guy is a jerk and deserves everything he will get! He is nothing but a liar to his boundary line neighbors, his employees and his clients. We have had to help out many hunters because they were lost or they had no way of getting ahold of their "guide". Imagine if you were really hurt and needed help! GOOD LUCK! State of IL ... please FINALLY say good ridence to this outfitter. Future clients ... BEWARE. He'll tell you know one has used the stand all season ... HA! HA!

Wrong....yes, but what would you do for a paying client?
Turn his ass in. People make mistakes, but a twelve pointer is not a doe. As a Maine guide I've been in this situation before. I had to do what is right and notify the warden. It was over a limit of grouse, not a deer.
The problem with places like IL. is any "Average Joe" can be a guide without proving himself as a law abiding conservationist. Anyone can be an "Outfitter" if they own a piece of property and label their truck door.
Glad to see they caught up with them. [up]
