thats awesome but why would you want to shoot a zebra or giraffe
I took a Burchell's zebra back in 2001. Very difficult shot since they were herded-up and getting within 200 yards of one (let-alone a herd of 20+) is almost impossible.

A poor shot on a zebra would require you to put you running shoes on and plan to spend the night tracking for a morning follow-up, unless of course the hyenas or resident leopard decides to finish the job for you.

I used a ruger mkV in .308 then. 140 gr nosler did the trick. Heart shot - it dropped no more than 20 yards from where I hit him. we paced off the shot - about 230 yds.

I still have the zebra rug and I did eat some of the back-straps - better than filet mignon!
The rest of the meat is donated and readily taken by the local community (usually the extended families of the trackers and skinners).

Zebra meat is prized by the locals.

Giraffe is a big call. You wouldn't want to go lighter than .375 H&H (although some folks have taken them with .300 wby and .30-06).

From what I've heard - Giraffe is prized for meat as well as the utility of it's hide.

I don't hear of too many people taking Giraffe - but then again, blue wildebeest wasn't very popular 30 years ago.

Dries Visser is the outfitter that Pat Lefemine (Bowsite.Com) uses. If you were at the bowhunter dinner in Feb. you saw some of those hunts.

I'm trying VERY hard to find the $$ for this!!!!! [wallmad][wallmad] If anyone might want to do a 2:1 guiding situation let me know. [up]

WOW, Congratulations on such an amazing trip [up]
