I guess when a striper eats him its not a baitfish either any other bigger fish eats it like a musky or whatever else.

The real argument might be in the wording and it's that wording that people misinterpret maybe on both sides. Sometimes its just plan hard to read at first glance.

Besides if your eating the eels do you know they are supposed to be loaded with PCB?

We skinned them first.

Cubed, and then roasted in red-wine vinegar w/ cracked olives and red onions.

[tasty][up]

Yes, and Tuna is loaded with mercury, and freshwater fish will give you iodine poisoning and on and on and on....

moderation.

I love eels to myself but won't eat another one again. Well maybe if it were fish farmed anyway? Yeah big game fish has mercury and thats why I can see at night its good for you to glow.[rofl][rofl][rofl]

PCB's come from the mud. Think about all the sewers they might crawl in from? An eel they say can really travel far I have read. I really don't understand how you guys like to catch them when they spin up on everything. Snakes. I like to rig them and drag them and fish the small ones for stripers.

I used to run 2 giant eels off my riggers they are pretty impressive when you drag then as teasers for billfish. they create a lot of tail action and sometimes you had to look twice on a rougher day when you thought there was a sickle coming up on one at times. Salted down they lasted for ever.

Other than that usage I think they are nasty:p

I caught an American eel in 1994 that was just under 7lbs I found out from a friend that it was a state record. I never had it weighed but I have pics and I know that I'm the record holder :) it was 37.5 inches long. it totally spooled me 2 or three times on ultra light tackle.

If you want to catch eels just wade the shallows at night in late summer and look into the seeweed. I Tie a cooler or basket onto an inner tube and use a long wooden net to grab the crabs, on the other end is a gig for the eels. Fried, smoked or pickled.[tasty]
Also American eels spawn over seas in the saragossa sea and the european eels spawn here so the big spawnners aren't loaded with PCB.s as most of their life is spent crossing the Atlantic.[patcheye]

I saw a body pulled out of the Niagra River when I was a kid and eels were coming out of every part they could come out of......I am NEVER eating one.

Cook them on the grill until done and the skin gets crispy. The skin is the best part.[tasty]

Whem i was young we giged them in the winter .cut hole in ice in the river get 2-5 then move cut another hole also poted them in the sping and fall but then the state stoped us from useing horeshoe crabs and that was the end of that
