I was reading another thread about a guy who was ticketed for insuffcient hunter orange. No indication if it was a valid charge but it appeared to be(logo on hunting cap). I was just wondering how many of us have ever been ticketed and what the outcome was?

I was hunting ducks one afternoon off of my own property. I was packing up for the night, had been unloaded for some time, and as I went to put my shotgun in the case, I grabbed it by the forend, and the slide closed. As I was walking out to the road, I was confronted by a CO, and ticketed for hunting within 450' of an occupied dwelling (my own home), and hunting after hours because the officer "heard me unload my gun"(the aformentioned slide closing when I cased the gun)

I was lucky, hired a good lawyer, and was acquitted on both charges in Municipal Court. The Judge actual yelled at the CO, for 1) ticketing me for hunting within 450' of my own house, and 2) giving me a ticket for after hours hunting when the ticket was actually issued 17 minutes after legal hunting time ended that day.But it did cost me about $400.00 in legal fees(back in the 80's)

Anyone else ever get a ticket?

Back in the 80's, dumb mistake .... first day of pheasant season ... I was walking down a trail at Clinton WMA to get to my hunting spot for the 8am start .... but I had shells in the magazine of the gun .... summons for "Hunting Out Of Season" .... I believe I mailed the fine to Clinton Municipal Court

Have been checked alot in the past and never had any problems. Im always very courteous and make conversation with the CO's...While waiting to pheasant hunt (5 mins before shooting time) I was waiting by my vehicle and heard a shot that was close. A ranger came down the road and stopped and I pointed to the field with the shooter[hihi]

Once about 10 years ago my son and I hunted the January deer season in zone 5. The night before we realized he has his permit, but forgot to get his new license. At the time he was in college and had little time to hunt. We decided to hunt the morning then go out for lunch and get his new license at Simon-Peter. Unfortunatly the CO decided he was going to drive out on the fields on Paulinskill that day and drive up to any hunters he saw and check their license. It was a $96 fine.

I have never seen a CO anywhere away from where people park before or after that.

Me and my buddy, we were in ny about 7/8 yrs ago. He got a 5pt, 3 on left 2 on right. He accidently cut out the next number date on the tag. He cut out the 23 or 24th, which was the next day. DEC stoped us on the higway and freaked out saying the tag could be used again the next day on a 5pt, 3PTS on left, 2 on the right. He made a mistake because he works around the clock and was coming off mids. I think he mailed it in with almost a $200 check. NY DEC were the nastiest i've ever encountered

I've been checked a couple of times, but was always legal and never got ticketed. I would love to have been a CO a couple of times though, there's some people out there that either don't know the laws, or just think they can bypass them and that's not right. This past year for duck season, opening day for the south zone I was on the crick and just about 5 minutes before legal shooting time world war 3 started. A bunch of shots and ALL of the ducks that were roosted there were gone. It blew my mind that they couldn't wait. [wallmad][wallmad]

I am the afore mentioned insufficient orange guy. I was in highschool and a friend gave me permission to deer hunt his property during doe season. Me and a buddy go there and set up on the ground about 100 yards apart. I had a vest to go along with my hat and wore it out into the woods, but sitting on the ground my butt was getting wet so I took it off and sat on it. Walking out I stuck the vest in my overalls instead of putting it back on. the CO was waiting when we got back to the truck. Apparently some Anti neighbor called them and told them I was road hunting with a rifle. This guy used to hand feed the deer a couple houses down and I guess decided that he didn't want anyone hunting his pets.[mad]

Any way the CO checked us both as we explained ourselves. Realized the claims were bs (there was snow still on the truck windshield from 2 hours before, it woulda been hard to road hunt without being able to see out the window plus we didnt have a rifle). But wrote me up for not waring the orange.

Worst day of my hunting life.

I did something stupid back in the 80's. I marked all the seasons down on my calendar and instead of checking them again, i went out on what I thought was "doe day" with my shotgun and it was muzzleloader season. I was my at my truck by a CO and issued a ticket for having the wrong weapon or something like that. I remember the word missle was in the ticket. lol. I just paid it and cursed at myself for being an idiot. I learned to double check what I'm heading in the woods with and not just rely on what I put on my calendar.

i got ticketed last month for fishing the spill way at the pequest. stupid move on my part [down] i was tempted by the big fish that were swimming in only a few inches of water and said to my self "what are the chances of a CO stopping me" well il never say that again :D

Man, I did the same thing this past doe season. Thought never entered my mind to renew my basic license for '09. Between all the special permits, rifle permit, and PA permits I picked up, I felt like I had more licenses and permits than a nuclear power plant, but oops. Fortunately, I wasn't challanged the one day I was short.

I had a CO threaten to issue me a summons last year for not wearing my license on my back..
It was pinned on the chest part of my jacket in plain view.. But that wasnt good enough for him..He physically removed the tag it and placed it on my back..He gave me a speech and threatened to write me up next time.

There is no requirement that it be on your back. Just visible.
