I am not limiting myself to police either. Id be interested in almost any law enforcement agency, and I am also not only looking to become a cop. If there are positions within agencies or municipalities that need to be filled I am all ears as well...dispatcher, administrative, fire/rescue, ems...I am all ears

like one guy said veterans go right to the top, even if you get a better score.
Only in Civil Service jurisdictions.

Check out Secret Service. They just go approved to hire a ton of people due to the high number of threats against the new administration. That came from the SAC of the local office at a Chief's mtg last month.
Apparently they found a bunch of $$ to hire agents for both plain cloths as well as uniform positions.

I have family that are leo's now. I tale every test and class that is possible. Even with my grandather being a retired chief, volunteer help, 4 year college degree, played & was captain of my college football team, habitat for humanity and so on its tough as hell to get one. Its who you kno now but, that does not even seem to help now unless ur a councilmans kid, alt route, or a vet. I have found npw that don't put it all in for the job now bc of let down n the thought of giving up.

My advice from someone that has been trying hard n that is inyour shoes. Get ur college degree and land a good paying job and get yourself established/ahead. Then start trying for alt route(take classes etc). U have till ur 35 to be a leo and not till ur 35 to get in with a good company to make money. Start ur life and things will follow. I have landed a great sales job and am happy as a pig in shit now. Still taking exams, I pass the tests n physical parts etc. When I get to the last step its been an alt route or a vet. When it bothers me I just think how established I am now. I have a job where I make over 65k my first year. Which is more then u start when ur a first year leo, a company car, and all my gas etc paid for. So I smile and say always next time bc I don't need to get in a panic bc tomrrow I go to a job I love doing now and making myself get ahead rather down and behind.

Pm if u need info for classes I have taken n alt route schools that u get hired for

Cape May County Police Academy takes a lot of Alternate Route and is one of the cheapest. About 50% of the class is Alt. Route.

If any of you get on and have to go to ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE POLICE ACADEMY>>>>>> I pay visits at times!

BE nice to D.I. Dsaint004 MUAHHHHHHHaha

Really guys/gals you better be in shape because you will have a tuff time going through!

Good Luck

Go get your EMT license and apply for the Federal Prison system. With the college under your belt and being an EMT you have a great chance at getting in. I work at Fort Dix FCI as a Medic but we are all LEO. Can't beat it! PM me if you want anymore info.

Best advise I'd give you, as one that does the hiring in my place and know many others in the same position, get into the Alt Route program.
The EMT is nice and all but trust me it's not a secret ticket into the job.

The Alt Route saves the hiring jurisdiction many $$ as they don't pay the salary and benefits for the entire length of the academy. Unfortunately with the economy being what it is, budgets are not supporting too many hires at present time. This means there are Alt Route graduates left over where a couple of years ago they were gone before they got out of the academy.

I'd say college, alt route, any special courses such as interviewing etc, and then anything else that looks/sounds good is the right course of action. ;)

Very true. There are definetly a lot of things you can do to make yourself more appealing to an agency. And remember that even if your not doing it, someone else applying for the same job as you certainly is.

hey now I was not being a jerk... but it does seem they are hiring a ton of females and minority's

they could be just as good, even better a candidate dont give me that race bs they do or at least certain companies are looking for it. you know for a well balanced work force!

I dont care what I say or what people think!

why... because I worked at a very, very large drug company and we had a black fellow there that would:

1. not show up for work - not show up for work and not even bother to call out & or not show up for work and not call in/out for multiple days
2. show up and sleep
3. not do a damn thing he was supposed to, making the others do his job.
4. told mgrs to go scratch, etc

And you know what the managers said to me? it was cheaper to keep him and not have any trouble. they refused to fire him, in fact they promoted his lazy ass. This company was scared to fire him and actually hired one of his friends of all things.

It was all because of the color of his skin and nothing to do with his work ethics. I finally stood up for myself and got shit canned right before I graduated from college. I just could'nt take it any longer and felt bad for the other employees.

You should be hired and promoted on your work ethics and knowledge, nothing more. I hear about this from owners all the time afraid to fire someone!

It's called call your insurance agent and buy EPLI insurance. Employee Practise Liability Insurance
For when your employee wants to sue you for various reasons including those race or gender issues.
