I'll be using up some vacation time next week and was hoping to squeeze in some fishing at some point. Can anyone recommend a good head boat this time of year? Looking for a bottom fishing trip or blackfish trip.

Thanks :D

Sorry for the ignorance, but what's a head boat?
I've been checking out the reports on www.fishingreportsnow.com, and am interested in trying out the Dauntless out of Pt. Pleasant, because according to the reports, they do both mackerel and bottom fishing on the same trip, which is a good way to get a (almost) guaranteed full cooler as well as a chance at some sweet blackfish. Any opinions on the Dauntless?

There's alot down here in Wildwood or Cape May. Running open trips for Tog and whatnot. I've seen pics in the local papers they seem to getting into them really good. I can't think of any boat names off hand but a little googling will go a long way[up]

That seems to be the case with a lot of boats this time of year... sailing only on weekends.

I see the head boats in Belmar are busy when I drive past in the morning. Short ride to some good grounds
Yeah, was thinking of jumping on one of the party boats out of Belmar. Are most of them taking people every day? Or are you just seeing them on weekends?

Jon check out www.noreast.com theres some NY boats that sail that run open boats and get on the meat too. I have considered many times going up there to try myself which is a little further run for me.

Don't just go blind because you want to go fishing. read up on some reports and check the weather before you go wind and sea conditions building into the day you want to go or the day after a subside when things are calming down best to wait another day deepending on the depth of the snags they are fishing if you can find out. You can only do so much inland to figuire it out then when you get to the rail then you got to figuire that out as well.:p
