Deer & Deer Hunting did a study on the top 5 deer attractants. Peanut Butter was #1. (Study was done at Rutgers University)
I tried peanut butter..Smeared it on a couple of trees around my bait(corn).Also had some buck jam near by. They ate the corn, sucked up the buck jam never touched the peanut butter. It was still on the trees 3 weeks later. Havnt hunted that stand in about a month or so dont know if they ever hit it or not

All over.. mostly the Cook College campus off of Rte 1. They've got some penned up deer they keep for research, but it's not unusual to see deer hanging out with them outside the fence
No public hunting allowed tho hehe, as I read this post, I just keep thinking... "if you build it, they will come"

Rutgers has several huge land owning throughout the state, where agricultural studies are done. If you seen some of the deer on them it would you drool!

I knew a guy who used to bait deer with bagels and stale bread from the local bakery.They used to hammer it.....and the layer of fat on the deer was amazing. Carb loading at its best....[hihi]

I totally believe the peanut butter theory. Deer will eat anything sweet. My first buck was baited in with a jelly donut.

Guess there has already been enough said. Peanut butter DOES work and works well. The only thing I will add in this post is that if you put out several choices at the same location for deer bait, they will eat it in order of there preference. ie. put out a pile of corn and a pile of white acorns and see which gets eaten first. Just like humans, deer have taste budds and will eat what tastes the best to them FIRST, then what ever else is left as long as it too is something the will eat at all!
