Took a nice doe to have one professionally butchered for the freezer. Checked it in, tagged it, and when I went to hang her the tag was gone. No idea where it went or how it came off. Not sure what to do, any ideas?

SMT - Those books get picked up weekly by Fish and Game. If the check station does not have the book anymore, than call Fish and Game and they will put you in contact with the Deer Biologist who have the books and they will give you the tag # for your deer. I know, because i never got my tag back when i brought my deer to a butcher in PA. I made the call and got the serial #.

I talked with the Deer Biologist with F&G when i explained my situation. He told me the metal possesion tag is not needed, just the seal #. If you ever decided to mount the antlers in the future, you just have to supply the taxidermist the seal #, not the tag itself. You just need to call F&G to request the seal # if you lost the metal tag or the supplemental tag/card when the deer was initially checked in, which i think also has the seal # on it.

Was out putting in some family time but made some calls on the road. Fish and Game told me to return to the check station with the supplemental tag, ask them to void it and issue a new supplemental tag and metal tag. Did that and all is good. Oh and as Hawkkdog mentioned, the supplmental tag has the number of the metal tag on it, I didn't realize that until I got the second one.

Thanks Mike, hope all is well.

Sorry Nick, family in town and little free time. When it comes back from the butcher you can have your pick as usual.
