Just a quick questions, I was in a conversation today with a fellow whitetail hunter, and he was telling me that he is "VERY" sucsessfull every year just using, Vanilla extract (cooking incredients) on a cotton ball.
Has anybody ever used this? or has heard of anything about using it?
He was telling me that it is a good year round attratent for the deer.

I know about the 5oo diferent commercial market attractents out there, I'm not asking about those, (tinks, h&s, code blue etc..........) but i was just refering to the Vanilla extract.

I don't bait, and i usually don't use scent during the rut either, and still very sucsesfull, but i was just wondering about this Vanilla thing!

Any info?[confused]

Vanilla works but it's not a sex attractant, it works as a food attractant. Be aware if your in bear country it works better on them then the deer.

Dan Fitzgerald started the vanilla thing with "Vanilla Killer" my namesake[hihi]. I used it alot so my bro started calling me it.. It is a food attractant and works well in early fall for me anyway, gets them coming in licking their lips[tasty]...VK

I use the #1 scent from the archery store in Lakewood. The guy says he swears by it...and I trust him so I've been using it. Not only does it make me smell great but it lures in deer. Supposively if you spray it on a tree, they will come right up to it and lick it.

I had a doe walk into vanilla scent before I got done climbing. I was halfway up in my climber, bow on the ground and there she was. BUSTED! She ran off 50 yards, started snorting, and my day was over. That was the only time I ever had deer react to it.

In my experience, vanilla works just like strawberry, blueberry and any other sweet extract. You might also try using peanut butter which I have had good success with over the years! These work as food attractents and like any other tool we use can be very effective but are not things that are magic or work everytime! Good luck!

Nothing works better than long hours in the stand but these attractants will increase your odds.

I had used Vanilla and Anise extract too as an attractent for homemade minerals licks 20 + years ago. It works, Like Highguy wrote, any sweet extract will work. Anise and Vanila they seemed to like the best. I also use to use a green apple extract, powder form. Tasteless, Purchased through a feed mill in NYS.

Buck nip works good from wildlife research too.

Ive used Anise oil as an attractant before, though I don't use scents that much nowadays. But it does work to stop a deer for a shot. I guess vanilla would work too.

One time when I was hunting zone 11 in Hunterdon Co. I had worked at a Jivadan Roure perfume factory the day before and I had 3 bucks under my stand first thing in the morning.
