I am new in this zone, I would like to know about good fishing spots (lakes, rivers, ponds) close to North New Jersey (Essex Co), I fish from the shore, maybe I could rent a boat BUT I would like to know good places to fish.
Besides, I wonder about the nearest Delaware River fishing spot to NNJ. I have been in DR a couple of times and I think it is a nice place to fish.
Thanx

winter months round valley open water spring summer fall theirs lots lake hopatcong has always been one of my favorites and dows is the best boat rental on the lake their located on nolans point road you get to it off of rt 15 or 80 howard blvd

Thanx !
Branch Brook Park in NW... you are joking about bringing the gun uh? do you really recommend that place? I wouldn't like to go to a dangerous place !
About Hopatcong lake... I have serious problems finding a good place for fishing from the shoreline.
Do you know some shoreline spot in Hopatcong lake?

Thank you !

There are several nj based fishing web sites that list all the public lakes in the state and give you lists of the fish in the lake as well as rating the lake on how good the fishing is for that particular species.
Check out new jersey bass anglers.com or
bass nj.com. both wil have tons of info for you.

Starting a bit early arent you ? Hunting seasons not over yet [lol]

Hey Mike I live in Essex too. Its early and I dont usually start fishing until early spring for crappie on Lake hopatcong. I also fish the trout season where I hit 80 West again and fish the Muskie and Rockaway river (Which is only 25 mins from where I live).

Welcome to the site! Glad to see one of the few Essex county residents here on the site.

I see a lot of yours are hunters...
I am just curious about something:
When you kill a big deer, what do you do with it?
do you eat that meat? I guess a big deer must be old and its meat maybe is not good, besides you don't know how healthy is this animal in the wild, maybe some desease. Just asking.

I'd rather eat a wild deer than something that's been raised on some farm, fed some food by-product, shot full of chemicals, hormones and anti-biotics, then slaughtered by someone I don't know, then butchered by someone I don't know, then left on a store shelf for God knows how long. I live in New Jersey, a diseased deer is the least of my worries. How about the pollution, superfund sites etc. By the way, if you are after trout, Ramapo River is a quick drive up rt17. Stocked every Thursday in the spring.

I would not eat the fish from here but the Passaic River has got plenty of fish for the catching and lots of different species too. For sport it's not a bad body of water and there are lots of places to fish from shore or to launch a kayak if you've got one.

Thank you Full Draw

I know is early, I just want to make a good database in order to get ready for spring. Anyway I am NOT going to fish in winter 'cause it's too COLD for me !!
Have you tried Verona Pond ? do you know about its species? have you tried Passaic River en Hanover?
Do you know a close spot in Delaware river close to us?
It would be nice if I could use your background !

Thank you again !

Yes, generally BIG deer are full of disease. Thats why they are so big. Kinda like fishing, when u catch a big fish, it probably has some kind of disease.[up]

If you want to make a camping trip out of the Delaware, try any of the state run campgrounds off of exit 1 on Rt 80. I belong to a campground in Walpack, and it's great because we get the Flatbrook stocked with trout, and the Del. is a few minutes away. Also if you get the itch, try one of the winter trout stocked lakes nearby in north NJ. Goto www.njfishandwildlife.com it's the states offical website and they will help you in your quest.

take it easy buddy... I am just asking, I just trying to use the same mind I use in fish. I know there are some desease in fish, and I just think MAYBE the same apply to deer. I don't know anything about hunting, sorry... I was just curious.
But I got your point, that's OK.

If you really like fishing, the BEST time of year is almost here in my opinion. Ice Fishing has become my favorite in the last 10 or 12 years. Less guys out there. You can access the entire lake without a boat and I generally catch bigger fish thru the ice with shiners and tipups. You should give it a try. hopefully we will have good ice most places in the next few weeks or so.

I am sure Ice Fishing could be fun and interesting.
But for a guy comming from the South and warmer weather... it almost impossible to deal with this cold weather, besides I guess you need more gear for that.

Hello to Essex Residents ! from West Orange here !
