takes a while but they will move when the snow gets to where they can play.2 years ago went out dec 6 day blizzard 2 on the griund at 6am 6 by 8 am and here come 4 does and a 4 ptr and i could have fed them out of my hand... the 4 got a blast 15 feet away in snow or rain your scent is minimal so be on your toes

It has been my experience that most critters will sit tight in the first snow fall of the year.
ok good...this means that the deer will be moving since we already had 12" at the end of october;)[hihi]

But in all seriousness, gg's experiences are similar to mine in that deer will sit tight during snowfall....especially the first. But the deer need to eat so they won't be sitting tight forever

Still hunting in the snow is my favorite kind of hunting.

Matt and I were taking corn back at 4pm and kicked two big does off my pile [wallmad][wallmad] I hadn't planned on hunting and didn't have the ML with me, but well before they saw us, Matt saw them. I gotta take that boy with me more often, and bring the gun no matter what :D

I take a weapon with me no matter what season it is. Expact for Sundays of course. The one time I don't have it is when I stumble upon a monster oblivious to my presence. Bringing the "good luck charm" along is always advisable too.

They usually move good before the storm comes in, before the front hits and the barometer changes. evenin/night before, or morning of, (if storm is comming in later on in the day) Thats been my experience for years, and I have always been sucssefull during those times. Also, after a GOOD HARD SNOW FALL, (6"+) sit those local food sources! Dinner bell is ringing!!!!!!![hihi][hihi][hihi]

There is an article in this months issue of deer and deer hunting on the effect snow has on harvests. I personally think that unless it is a heavy snow it won't effect movement much. I like to hunt in the snow because the white background makes it easier for me to catch movement.

The snow we get here is nothing compared to out west. Our few inches wont stop a deer from moving .A few feet might. But snow is a great oppotunity to follow tracks to see where they are going and comming from. And this can help out on future hunts!

I always tracked them to their bed down spots.then started crawling on my belly to sneak up on them.Busted a couple like that, one however busted me he still didn't make it.

I was following the tracks uphill to a known bedding area. when i got to the top there he was. he ran about 20 yards and then turned broadside to get a look.the first and last mistake he made.

Just call me the mailman of hunting rain ,snow ,sleet or ,hail nothing will stop me from making my rounds.OK maybe hail if it is big enough.
