Yesterday - dawn found me a mile into the woods of Sterling Forest with my rifle and a dream. It was pouring rain right on through to mid day. At about 1 pm I decided to call it even and walked out to where I parked. Laying on the ground, in the next parking spot, was a matthews MQ2 and a quiver full of thunderhead tipped carbons.
I was too tired and too far off the beaten path to bring it to the park office yesterday. I figured that I'd do it today. Hopefully its owner would report it lost and get it back from the park office. Since I was out last night I went to the gym and raked my leaves this morning and I went up to Sterling for the afternoon hunt. Before I went to the park office I drove by the parking spot where I found the bow to see if anyone left a note.
I pulled up and there it was. A big sign. Found a bow? Call 1 973 SAVEMYBUTT! I called the guy. He showed up with his son in about ten minutes. He is from Ringwood. He was so happy! Then he says - gee I don't have any money to give you....Of course I told him that I would not accept any reward and that I expect that he would do the same for me or another guy. Then he said - "I'll tell you what - I am a taxidermist....I will do a deer for you for $50. You have my number just call me."
How nice is that! I told him that I'd only call him if he let me pay at least half for the mount. That seems fair. What do you think? I really don't want to take anything from the guy but if I let him do something like that it will leave him with a good feeling. He sure was glad to get his bow back.
