Yeah I've been turned arround a few times and had my parents worried when I was younger. South Jersey is really easy to get turned arround in. There are no ridges to use as reference points and Pines pretty much just look like pines when you get in the middle of them. I wouldn't hunt down there without trail marking tape or gps

Yeah I was hunting in pemberton and a guy from fortdix got lost doing land nav walked past my stand.

Many of these South Jersey tributaries have unpredictable changes in tide and current. Particulary after heavy rain.
Add to that the undercuts and roots and you have a very dangerous environment.
Even a place like Cooper River where ChrisN fishes often, looks placid on the surface, but the current is perilous.

Let s say a prayer for him and his family.
I have taken My brother and my brother to all of my stand locations so they know were to look if I go missing. I tell my wife what location I will be hunting to tell my brother and brother inlaw in case something happens. I had a friends father die from a tree stand fall. I also bring a hand held gps and set a way point before I start tracking a hit deer along with a roll of orange ribbon.
Please all hunter at the very least bring a roll of ribbin with you and tie off as you explore new areas or track an injured animal. ALL BE SAFE
