Well me and some friends have been in Missouri chasing whitetails since Halloween...
Week started out a little ruff, warm weather mid to high 70's with heavy fog in the mornings had really curtailed deer movement. We were seeing deer every day...just not the big boys or just glimpses of them.
Well the weather turned Thursday and things have been on ever since.
Hunted this evening at a farm that I saw a really good 10 (140) yesterday evening. I nicknamed him "Limpy" cause something had kicked the crap out of him and he was limping bad.
Well got settled in at 1:30 and the wait started. Well the wind died down about 4pm and at 430 I hear crunching behind me. I turn expecting to see a doe and all I see is RACK...it was so wide it looked like a snowplow. I figure that this is the guy that beat the crap out of Limpy.
He's every bit a Boone & Crockett deer, and I have him at 13 yards behind me and can't shoot! I couldn't get my quiver by the side of the tree cause it had a knob on it! Anyway, I move and the stand squeaks and he don't like that and starts to move off the way he came. I slide over to the right side of the tree while at full draw and can't soot cause my E-Z Hanger is in the way and I have him at 25 yards quartering away!!!! Oh it made me sick! No shot on a Booner at 13 & 25 yards!!!!!
Oh yeah, Limpy came by, and if he was close enough he'd be dead right now cause Limpy's pretty darn respectable too!
There was a guy in camp that took a 150" main frame 10 and the big boy I saw tonight made this deer look like a toy.
But, it's been a week of firsts for me, first time I've seen a coyote in the wild, first time I've seen a Bobcat in the wild, and the first time I've ever seen a B&C & P&Y deer in the same day!
Hope he slides back by tomorrow...it's my last day here!
