I have a 12 Ga. shotgun. what else do I need to know and where can I go? I live in Jackson. I haven't gotten my stamps yet I plan on going saturday moring first thing.

Anybody willing to show me some spots??? I know nothing about it or where to go. I would be interested in going a couple of times with somebody. I have thought about it over the past few years trying it but never found anybody to go with.

I've been interested in trying it out too. But never knew anyone who did, or where to go in the area I'm also in Jackson. I'll give it a shot with you if you want.

Toms River area is goin to be a little tough no water in the bogs and most of the ducks hold up in holiday city. we duck hunt along the barneget bay in bayville but alot of people go to that spot .Once coastal opens you may want to make a trip down to seven bridges road in tuckerton. If you got a boat theres alot of good spots if not towards the end is ok for hunting from land.
Good Luck huntin

If you have never duck hunted you are late getting set up now. Think what it would be like deciding to deer hunt a week before the season opens then add more complication because you need different gear.
Also realize you have to scout after the ducks are here so scouting now is not too late.
But I will try to help you some. Hoep this is not too obvious:

1. What gear do you have? Chest waders? hip boots, canoe? row boat? if none of the above you need to limit yourself to lake sides or streams at best. For lakes rig up a fishing rod with a large plug and add more treble hooks for retrieval. In other words limit your scouting to where you can retrieve the ducks.

2. Grab your binoculars (or buy/borrow) and check the nearest managemnet areas and state forests with decent ponds/streams/lakes before sun down or first thing in am if you can. Be sure to time yourself and spot to avoid the sun in your eyes.

3. Pick your spot based on what you see and the gear you have. Bare minimum you could sit where they want to go or jump shoot. No decoys or special gear needed.

4. Get there an hour earlier than you do for deer. Why? Because of other duck hunters! Good to have back up spots too for that reason.

Like any other sport you have to work your way into it.
