So everyone, about 6:45 am a large doe starts to head in my direction. I wait for the opportunity to stand up in my stand and get my bow ready. She looks right at me and I freeze. Eventually, as she hesitantly continues, I take each opportunity to get into position. Well, all of the PERFECT practice positions are now down the toilet and it's improvise time. She does eventually give me a 20 yard broad side shot, however, I had the bow at full draw for what seemed like an eternity and I was, to be perfectly honest, in full BUCK FEVER MODE. My heart was racing and my hands were shaking. I had her in my sites, but I honestly was not confident that I could take a kill shot being so excited, so I let down and she walked. What an amazing experience though. I now know that I can draw on a deer at close range, so hopefully this afternoon I will get another opportunity to connect.

[rofl] heart is beating out of your chest, right?[rofl]you didn't shoot, because you were shaky(from the long draw)or just not steady on the vitals???? Not busting your chops, just curious to know.......great call by the way,:Dnot sure, don't shoot.....[up]

Ms.Grit, great story and even though you did not put an arrow through her you won. The doe never knew you were there and you were at full draw. In my opinion you made the right call and show the true colors of a bowhunter.

I am sure you will put one down later today.

Here's a tip. Don't hold the bow at full draw for so long. As long as you move REAL SLLLOOOOWWWWW the deer will allow you to execute the shot. I've taken about a half dozen deer that were looking right at me. They were unalarmed, and had no clue as to what I was. (I was also 20ft up and camoflagued well with good background and cover.) Draw either just before, or when the shot presents itself. Move Smooth and Slow and as soon as the shot is lined up- take it. [up]
P.S. I shoot stickbows, so I really can't "hold" at full draw before a shot. I draw and shoot when the shot is presented.

Happens to everyone.

Sometimes those deer will plaster you into the same position for what seems like hours.

Good luck this evening, I hope you connect !![up]
