Midway informed me that they are in process of putting in place a system for NJ purchases. As for midway not supporting the NRA,they are the only ones I've heard promoting it all the time.

I will purchase form them once they are set up

bloodtrails - Did Midway ever get back to you ?

I still say Midway does not support the NRA - IMHO
No, I never contacted them but just sent an email to the president of Midway, Larry Potterfield to find out why.

BTW, Here's info on how Midway supports the NRA:

No company in America is more dedicated to, and more supportive of, the goals of the National Rifle Association than MidwayUSA.

Inside the MidwayUSA building you will see NRA member and life member stickers beside almost every name plate. Most departments host a sign that says "100% NRA department."

Our advertising department donates creative time for the production of NRA ads and MidwayUSA displays at the NRA Annual Meetings each year. Since 1992, we have been asking Customers to "Round-Up" the total of each order and donate the change to the NRA/ILA. MidwayUSA has collected over $4,129,663.72 and sent it to the NRA/ILA National Endowment for the Protection of the 2nd Amendment. The NRA/ILA doesn't spend your money, they only spend the interest from it, so the Endowment continues to grow each year.

The Columbia, Missouri committee of the Friends of NRA holds its monthly meetings in the MidwayUSA building and many MidwayUSA associates help with and attend our annual Friends of NRA fund-raising banquet.

Visit the Mid-Missouri Friends of the NRA Website

The Potterfields, owners of MidwayUSA, created the NRA "Round-Up" program and the Friends of NRA program. The Potterfields are also regular contributors to NRA Foundation endowments. Brenda Potterfield also served as the Vice President of the NRA Foundation's Board of Trustees.

Midway is great and they contribute a ton of money to the NRA. The roundup program is huge! Don't condemn them for NJ being a hassle to deal with. I don't blame these places from out of state for not wanting to deal with the crap we have learned to live with!

Next problem is going to be rifle ammo as well. With advancements of new pistols like the Thompson Center Contender for example, are chambered for .30-30, 45-70, etc. Dicks won't sell rifle ammo without a FID because many rifle cartridges can be used in such pistols so basically all ammo in Dicks needs to be sold to holders of a FID.

I don't mind going to the shop for my ammo but I think it's messed up that the options for others are getting limited.

Here is an update from Larry Potterfield, President, MidwayUSA:

Well, it boils down to a clerical problem at this point. You are correct about the proof requirements, I am just waiting on my IS team to develop a program that will be able to track these documents electronically. We just got the FOID cards for Illinois up and running, but I can’t give you an accurate time frame on when this project will be completed. Until I have a system in place that can prove we are in compliance, I am holding off on the sales. I apologize for the inconvenience on this.

Aim Straight,

Same reason from customer service. I'm glad they are working on a fix for it....

Dear Joe,

Thank you for the email. It is a unfortunately a slow process to get the FOID card state by state setup, we only just recently started accepting IL foid cards. I apologize for the inconvenience, and please have patience with us, we will get to NJ soon. We appreciate your business.

Does this also mean reloading stuff. Brass and lead??
No, only loaded handgun ammo.

Here's a copy of the full text:
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2006/Bills/S2500/2470_R1.PDF

Here's the definition of "handgun ammunition" under the new law:

"As used in this act, “handgun ammunition” means ammunition specifically designed to be used only in a handgun. “Handgun ammunition” shall not include blank ammunition, air gun pellets, flare gun ammunition, nail gun ammunition, paint ball ammunition, or any non-fixed ammunition."

A case could be made that the law is unenforcable, because I believe it would be a very short list of caliber(s) that are exclusive to handguns. Think of all of the "pistol" catridges that are chambered in lever guns, sub-guns, & carbines (not to mention the single-shot, switch barrel rifles like the T/C Contender & Encore).

If you were charged under this law for possession of any of the above referenced "dual use" cartridges, I think you'd prevail in court. But who has the money for legal fees to go the distance?

Here is the latest - A person from our gun club called Midway today and was told that it's New Jerseys fault that Midway can't sell handgun ammunition in the state; he was also told that unless New Jersey changes the law they have no plans on ever selling handgun ammunition to people living in New Jersey - and so it goes!!

IMHO - Larry Potterfield of Midway is a fraud [down]

It absolutely IS NJ's fault! Can you blame them? Look what Bloomberg did to some out of state firearms dealers. Many went out of business defending illegal lawsuits. Midway has many employees that could lose their job if some idiot in Trenton wants to play games.

Larry Potterfield of Midway is a fraud
Larry Potterfield has done more for the shooting sports, the NRA, and working class people who shoot then probably any one person in history.. He set up the NRA roundup wich contributes a ton of money to the NRA, he sponsors all kinds of competive shooting, he invents all kind of gizmos the help shooters and gunsmiths alike, and for the working class shooters he has his catalog wich dollar for dollar almost can never be beat. He stated in his letter to JJOE that he is trying to get it working. Do not blame the man for NJ bullshit gun laws. He is covering his own ass for the sake of the rest of the country.
