trust me there are crooked CO's out there. Zane Batten is now suspended from work because he has over 11 law suits pending. He is a disgrace to the state and our supposed to be supporters of the sport. Shame this guys buck was taken. Shame on the judge and the sorry ass CO's.

well said, they are many crooked conservation officers out there.. just remember we all have rights under the federal constitution and we are protected under the 4th. CO's just dont have the right to search your vehicle when they want just remember that. they need probable cause just like any other cop or police officer. ther are only police officer who work for the division of fish and game or the DEP. And no they dont have the right to walk into anyones house when ever they want they would need a search warrant. it only takes one guy to scar everyone else. In cases like this you would need a good lawyer who is also a hunter, one that i know is john novak barnegat nj

NAW followed this closely and reported on it in several issues. This poor guy definitely got hosed. Just when you thought our crappy state couldn't get any worse you find out it actually can.

The game wardens were just following info that they thought was truth. Once they pressed charges it was to late. They couldn't back down or they would look like idiots so they just let the court decide. Happens all the time and they know that 9 times out of 10 their charges will stick or they will get a plea bargain. Lazy, corrupt, and arrogant employees of the state of NJ. We are surrounded by them.[wallmad] It makes it more disturbing that they don't give a shit that they ruined this guys family moment with his daughter and wasted his hard earned dollar. You think they give a crap about the future of hunting?

If this case was as clear cut as this article makes it sound, then this guys lawyers made some real mistakes. If the forensic evidence was based solely on opinion, then a simple motion would exclude that evidence from being admitted. It looks to me like the evidence must have been more than mere opinion.

Did the lawyers call the 3 other guys to the stand? Where is this gun that they claim he shot the deer with? Does the forensic evidence point to a certain caliber?

Lots of holes here....holes that should not have held up on appeal with any decent attorney. Either that or we are not hearing the whole story.

Your right, it is the judges discretion on those kinds of motions. But my point is that if the trial court judge had made an error in admitting that evidence, an Appellate judge would certainly have adressed that error.

Dont get me wrong, I know that judges can be very liberal in this state, but it just doesnt seem possible that they would admit forensic evidence that is of the sort explained in this article. Either that, or we arnt hearing the whole story.
