I use a Trophy Rock and a 50lb Trace Mineral Block(the red one).
I place these over a decaying stump or over a bunch of decaying logs that I place at the base of a tree.
I then cover all of the wood with powdered minerals, like Rack Up, then top it off with Apple Buck Jam, then I water it down with salt water that I bring with me(just tap or stream water in a gallon jug and some table salt).
The water activates the minerals.
I use this mix because it provides a plethera of odors and tastes that appeal to whitetails, and, apparently- raccoons !!
I think its a little on the late side to start a mineral site. I start mine in April and run them through like, mid September.
I guess better late than never.
Some of our guys are using Bag-R-Buck products, including their mineral bags and my goodness...They work. hang them high and let them do their thing.
Having the bag hanging there limits your required trips into the woods, thus, you dont pressure the deer.
I refresh my sites once per month.
Some deer need a "kick in the butt" to start hitting the minerals heavily, dont know why..but I covered the rotting stump or the pile of gathered, rotting logs with corn and tehn buck jam..
That gets 'em going !!
