That is amazing. I know that sometimes a buck will not cast his antlers until the newer ones growing in force them off, but in most cases I would have thought they would be shed by now. Geez- It's almost April !

There are a lot of factors that determine when deer drop there antlers. There is winter stress, the food available. The most important is breeding success. The more a buck breeds the faster he will drop his horns. That is why the more dominate bucks usually drop first.

Just my opinion but I believe that the deer in NJ now have a ton of food available between the supplements and the food plots being created as well as Hunters placing feeders outthere. There bodies are well nourished compared to say 10-15years ago when at this point all they had were old acorns, ferns, mushrooms, leaves.
Also why i think the biggest bucks drop first b/c they wont readily come to food sources after being pressured all season. they're still hiding in the swamps.
10-15 years ago (baiting wasnt legal yet) you only put out food sources when ya could(allowed legally) now for a lot of guys its a year round thing. Im sure the der are thnkful for it.
