Hey Guys,

I'm looking for recommendations on a new ultra light spinning outfit for trout fishing. I currently have a Fenwick rod & reel set up which actually isn't bad, but it's getting a little dated. I'm looking for something a little newer/better. What do you guys use/recommend?

Any input is always appreciated.

Thanks!

light weight for you is a telephone pole and a crane wench...:D

seriously get another fenwick..I love mine.. I have a nifftly little Mitchel reel with it.. I lovbe the set up..

My favorite ultralight setup in a G.Loomis GL3 5'0" ultralight rod (model #SR6010) mated with a Shimano Sustain 1000FE ultralight spinning reel (model #SA1000FE).
The rod has some backbone, for an ultralight, yet doesn't give up anything when it comes to sensativity. The reel is as smooth as silk.
Not the cheapest package around, but you'll never regret the money spent.

I'm really interested in the new Pflueger "Razor Tip" rods. Hoping to handle one soon... they look like a great bargain. I got an Okuma Alumina reel on my current rod and I like it a lot, so I won't be looking for a new reel anytime soon. However, I can't shake my desire for a G. Loomis 2 peice 5' spinning rod (the one loaded4bear mentioned, but in 2 peice). I just can't justify spending over $200 on a rod that I'll probably break before the end of the year though [rofl]

Doug, stop over in Meltzers they have a lot to choose from in terms of rods & reels. Can't go wrong with a Shimano or Diawa reel. The rod you should try yourself in terms of what feels right, then it all comes down to how much you want to spend. Just my .02

if u can hold off till the march sportsman show in rockland county at Rockland Comm College.. u may be able to get one for a steal from the davis or meltzers booth.....

There's really only two options for you...

The economical, but perhaps slightly larger than you'd prefer sized rod. An excellent choice for those "hard to reach" spots:

Or the truly ultra, ultra, ultra light...oh, and compact setup that may cost you tomorrow's milk money...but hey you'll be beating on the trout like a superstar!!! I mean seriously, look at that top of the line drag system right there! And I hear there are even color options, so you can match your hot pink waders! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!![rofl]

Oh and those shorts and shades that model teddy bear is wearing are included in the price...but you might want to size up a few...dozen...sizes! :D

Up to you dude, good luck! [hihi]

Oh, one final option if you are talking about battling some serious NJ trout...anything over 5.5"...I'd step up the tackle a bit. Go conventional, maybe some 3000# braid with some 1000# fluoro topshot...add in a BB splitshot with a size 10 bait holder hook and we might see you on the next Fisherman magazine cover!!!

GET EM DUDE!!! :D

Try an ultralight Uglystick Lite in 6 1/2 - 7'.The extra length makes a major difference in the sensitivity and controling a drift.I just bought a new ultralight last spring.I looked at Okuma,Pfluger,Diawa & Shimano but I settled for a Cardinal.Money wasn't an issue but feel was.It felt tighter and built more solid than the rest that were more money.
