These are photos of deer on my backyard feeder. NO I DONT HUNT THEM, plus they are too young anyway. One photo is them over a bait PILE. I am looking for some photos I have of them on the feeder and pile during daylight hours. So no, bait doesnt make deer nocturnal. Constntly intruding on their[deer] area and dropping scent makes them nocturnal to the bait pile.

So those of you that rely on bait, do your best to scent block before you enter the woods to drop your bait and you will find that deer will hit that pile during daylight hours.

The other photos are "my bait", a cut corn field and one photo from a stand I have in an Oak Flat. So, I guess I do bait, but with agricultural fields and natural browse !!

Yea Chris, I hear people say that all of the time. Unless you are dealing with an already nocturnal buck, he should hit it during daylight hours if you limit the pressure on that area.

What zone do you hunt ? Alot of hunting pressure ?

12 and 14 all private land. Moderate hunting pressure at most of my spots.

I havent had a problem with bucks only hitting my bait at night this season. Because I have done what I said in the other thread....limit the amount of corn I put out at once.

If you set up and hunt 40 yards away from a baited area, then you are in deed hunting over bait [confused]

FROM YOUR OTHER THREAD:

Code:
The bait doesnt make a buck nocturnal. The contiuous trips to the woods to drop the bait does. Everytime you go in your are distrupting the ground, leaving scent, making noise and there is scent on the bag or corn as well.

Thats what makes deer hit bait nocturnally. I had a feeder set up at one of my spots. I left it up basically out of laziness.[b] I was hunting that spot, not 40yards from the feeder.[/b] The deer actually hit the feeder at mid day !

Why ? because I set up the feeder, loaded the feeder and left it. Also, I dont hunt over it, so there was no human intrusion to be associatted with that feeder.

I had Deer Chow and Soybean in that feeder(protein), because it was set up early in the year and corn is HORRIBLE to fawns.

We had to start a new thread for this. If you put food out for deer to bring them to an area, then you hunt 40yds away where they approach the feeder YOU ARE BAITING. It doesn't matter if there's food in it when your hunting. You spent the whole off season conditioning those deer to be in the area you hunt, making that feeder part of their daily routine. They're gonna stop and check it no matter if there is food in it or not.
I think the confusion about baiting is how people define it. Baiting has different meanings to everyone. Kinda like the whole "ART vs PORNO" debate[spy]

Also like I said earlier, they tend to come in to bait mainly at night, and what a surprise [eek] pics of dinkers hitting bait in the middle of the night [eyeroll]

Mr, I totally agree. The feeder that I "hunted near" was set up in an Oak Flat. They go there regardless.

I didnt affect their travel pattern at all.

And yes, I have night time photos of these deer. Like I said, I have photos of them there during daylight hours. These deer are near homes and usually dont come out much during the day. In fact, after I set up the feeder, I noticed more daytime deer sightings.

Chris. PM me, if you hunt 12/14 you should come out with us next season. We have some good spots in the area.

Don't take my ribbing to serious DT249, I'm just busting your chops a bit [hihi] Also my offer stands, that if you can make it out with your bad foot to sit in a blind and shoot a deer I would gladly come down as long as it's not to long of a drive and track, gut and drag/haul it out for you [up] Would give me a chance to use my new deer cart ;)

I know where you are comming from. I take no offense nor am I disageeing.

Thanks man. I doubt I will get out though. I do bought a deer cart. They work very well. I have the Ameri-Step cart. Its not the best, but it helps alot.I just need to fabricate a soulder strap, that would make it even easier to drag out deer.

Watch, next arguement will be people saying that using an aid to drag deer out is NOT HUNTING. [hihi]
