Well, after receiving several hundred dollars in cash and Bass Pro gift cards, I'm going to make my GPS purchase. I am planning on buying a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. Does anyone have any last minute suggestions or warnings for/against this unit?

yoda I have one is the best in the market. Very easy to use right out of the box. I have several models but Garmins 60csx is the Cadillac of them all.

Just ordered it. And to my surprise, the unit was on sale for $400, $50 less than expected using the catalog # (doesn't happen if you do it via the internet). BUT there was an added bonus, there's a $50 rebate on this unit. So, I'll save $100 for this unit. Not bad.

It's a great unit!
I agree. I have the 60CSx and it has saved me from getting lost a few times. Only problem is that the batteries die pretty quickly. And you have to buy a SD Card or add on CD-Rom for the North America base maps.

If I had gift cards from the Bass Pro shop that where I would but from. For those that do not, check out tigerdirect.com
I got my 60CSx from there came in a 3 day new in unopen box ......no problems.
Like someone mentions you will need to buy the map sofeware in some form.

If it was from BassPro,here's another $50 from Garmin!

Wish I read thi 2 hours ago, garbage man just came and the upc and box were thrown out.[wallmad]
I am waiting for the mapsource software from cabell's. cheaper than from mapsource, also you don't need to buy the usb wire as the unit comes with one.

Look at the Delorme PN-20. You can download Google Earth maps to it and it is just as good as the Garmin only it has better mapping software. Satellite imagry is where it's at and Garmin is behind in the game on this. So far only Bushnell and Delorme have it. The Bushnell 400 has a lot of bugs in it to be fixed before I would purchase one. I will be going for the delorme PN-20 myself. Other than the imagry I would choose the Garmin 60CSX second.. my.02cents

Your better off buying the cd rom as then you can up date maps every 8 mo. when they come out. If you get the card thats all she wrote. The card covers all of US.& Canada cannot be updated If you use the chip the gps comes with and buy the disc you can only down load 3 states at a time , but you can always update as they come out. After all how many states are you going to be in at one time. Unless your traveling cross country. Then $ is not a factor.[patcheye]

Ps. I emailed Garmin and they said they would honor the rebate for me without the upc code. We'll see. If not then I'll switch brands next time and go back to Magellan.

You can also buy a larger SD chip and upload more info to your unit.
Not if I don't have to.:D
Beside if I need another state I can just delete the ones I don't need and dload the others. With my knowledge of comps I'll be lucky to get enough info to find my stand, let alone some spot in another state. [patcheye]
