So, I was going to go fishing last night, but with it being so windy in North Jersey, I decided early on not to. One of my friends was going hunting, so I tagged along with the video camera. Tried this last week-end, unsuccessfully though.
So, we posted signs for the hunting club and were in the woods about 4:30 pm, although my friend kept telling me it was too early.
We shared a tree. I was in a ladder stand, and he was slightly above me in a climbing stand. Not 20 minutes later, 5 doe start heading our way. The first doe was the largest, but never came within range. I slowly got a hold of the camera and turned it on while it was still in my backpack. For whatever reason, it was on night view and I didn't know how to change it over. So, the video is greenish black. (I have not attached the video for I do not feel it is appropriate as it was very graphic)
The last doe came within 25 yards and one arrow took her down where she stood. The arrow was a little high and hit her in the shoulder, but it paralized her back end. There was no second shot from the tree where she landed on the ground. We quickly climbed down the tree and re-positioned ourselves so that he could take the final shot. The second shot hit her in the vitals, and without incident, she expired within a minute.
It was pretty cool to video the successful hunt, but not as good a actually hunting myself would have been. Ahhhhh, next year I will be archery hunting.
