ATV's are not permitted on NJ public lands period! I think its a stupid rule but I'm not a politician. But what's realy even more stupid is that you can legally drive an ATV over any frozen lake in the state as long as you wear a life vest.

So its not OK to ride on land but you can pollute the lake all you want to[up] hows that for NJ logic

Out west ATV use and missuse have ruined MUCH of the public land hunting if they can do it in say Montana how much use would it taks to drive NJ public land hunting into new lows?

The legalization of ATV's on NJ state land would be an incomperable nightmare. There are areas that are already torn to all to hell by just the outlaws that think it's ok. Legalizing it would only increase the carelessness and damages. There's no need for them here anyway. Nobody's hiking 10 miles in to their spot.

305, I feel your pain! Anyone who hunts in Zone 19 has probably had that same feeling a time or two. It always seems like my luck that the whole sit is quiet and just as the deer are starting to move, some maniac comes flying through at prime time. Even if the deer are somewhat accustomed to it, it just ruins the hunt for you!

Dawgs: Regardless of how I feel personally about illegal ATV riding the fact of the matter is that it curtails "legal" hunting activity, -(something you should be concerned about). I am not limited to hunting public land, but in my last attempt at it I found out and wasted a lot of time finding out that ATV riders were interfering.

Dawgs,
"Ride em where ever you want" seems like the motto of the ATV riding scum you seem proud to like yourself with.
Fact is I have had ATV tresspassers ride right up the middle of a C1 creek in an attempt to drive deer with those thngs talk about the height of delinquency! Scum is right.

I am a former ATV "scumbag". I had a 400ex and a LT250R, lack of rideable land shouldn't be used as an excuse for tearing up public land. They do significant damage to the land in which they are ridden.

Dawgs sounds like one of the scumbags who gives everyone a bad name. You chose to buy a vehicle in which you had no place to ride, shame on you.

I wish I could use an ATV for hunting. The problem is you can't leave it up to the individual. It will get ruined. Some guys will just rip it up, which is fun, but not on state land where we hunt. I think this is the real problem.

I had those ATV riding kids on my PRIVATE property on Saturday. It was 5:50 and it was JUST getting good...when I heard them riding close...if they would have driven by my stand I would have thrown something at them...but they stayed away and I didn't want to get out of the tree to get to them at that time of day

John, what's a C1 creek? Just curious, never heard the C1 term
NJ DEP protects the state's waterways against degradation at certain levels.

The second highest tier of antidegradation protection is Category One. These waters are protected from measurable changes in water quality due to their unique characteristics.

This from DEP .....
Category One waters are defined as waters protected from measurable changes in water quality characteristics because of their clarity, color, scenic setting, other characteristics of aesthetic value, exceptional ecological significance, exceptional recreational significance, exceptional water supply significance, or exceptional fisheries resources.
The DEP is reviewing the classification system this year ... maybe it was already done .... some waterways will definitely be added to the system, and some may be downgraded to category two. DEP wants the classification to be more data-driven.

That's what I think, anyway.
Jim

sounds like someone that is stuck hunting public land and doesnt own an ATV...
I've always said if you buy an ATV you should buy land to ride it on and tear it up to your hearts content. Leave the public land pristine for Po' boys like me. And believe it or not, hunting can also be good exercise.
