I decided to treat myself to a luxury I never even considered, a deer cart. I have dragged many a deer out of the woods but now that I’m older (66) I want to go the easier route. I ordered and received the Cabelas’s Magnum Game Carrier. Probably over-kill for our whitetail deer but I liked the big 20inch tires. Here is the problem – THE TIRES STINK!! I unpacked it this morning before breakfast with the intention of assembling it after I ate. The garage had such an odor in it I had to put the tires outside. It must be in the manufacturing of the solid hard rubber. The odor is so strong there is no way this cart could be brought to the area I am hunting nor could this be stored in my garage when not in use. I called Cabela’s and will be returning it. Here is my dilemma. Since all game carts seem to come with hard solid tires – do they all smell this bad? Somehow I doubt it. I need help from you that have found a game cart you are happy with. Thanx.

Yeah what Mr.12Ga. said let the thing stay outside IN THE SUN to off gass for a while no biggie.

Soon you two will be a deer haulin team to be reckonded with.[smoke]

Mate Mike: Do yourself a favor and return it!! I have the Cabela's game carrier with 16" wheels for 3 years now and the wheels still stink! It is a strong odor. I left it out until the chrome on the wheels are rusted but it did not help. No way you can bring it in the woods with you. Even when you keep it in the SUV it stinks the whole inside. Other than that it is great in the field. I took a large bodied deer last season and wouldn't know how I would have taken it out of the woods without it.

Mate Mike,
I have the Ameristep one, and when it was delivered the tires stunk to high heaven. I tossed it in the back of my pickup and a few days later 90% of the smell was gone.

I'm very confused with the responses. So many say leave it outside and the smell will go away OK - but then Broadhead sends the following message

Can anyone tell me a brand name of a deer cart they have and like that does not smell. The smell is not a concern when hauling deer; I can just leave it in my pick-up until needed. My concern is storing it in my garage when not in use. Again - can anyone recommend a cart they own and use.

Any cart with the solid rubber tires has the potential to have that smell. It is just due to the chemicals used in production. If you get a cart that has wheels that were made months ago it will not smell because the rubber "gassed off" the odor. Buy the same exact model cart with recently produced tires and you will have the odor. I don't think its a make/model issue but an age of the tires issue. Just keep the wheels in your truck or outside for a while the smell should go away. Being in the sun or in warm temps also seems to speed up the process as more gas is released.

Well I took a chance since the advice that the smell would dissipate outweighed it would not. I'm happy to report - most of the smell is gone. Thanx to everyone for sending in the posts.

I have a Cabelas Magnum, had it for 3 years now. I never noticed an odor when it was new. Has no smell now. But odor or not, I leave it in the truck unless I actually need it. So the odor wouldn't hurt anything. When I get a deer, I'll carry out my bow and stand, then return with the cart for the deer. No problemo!
