I was just at Targeteers when a hunter brought in a very small deer, I shook his hand and said Congrats to him. He admitted he was ashamed for taking this small deer but he is forced to take it so he could get his buck.

When he drove off all I could do was shake my head at the comments he made. Last time I checked this is AMERICA, your not forced to take such a small deer, you took it cause you chose to do so, also no matter of the size be proud of your kill

Joe

In a round about way, you are kind of forced here in NJ to take any deer, sometimes even a small one, just to get that EAB out of the way.

Now he could have showed more restraint, and not have shot it, and been more selective. I can see his point, and yours as well.[smirk]

I don't eat the spots, just like I don't eat the horns. I hunt deer for food. If I see a fawn with spots, it's getting an arrow so that I can have meat on the table. Imo NJ is claimed to have a deer population problem, and by passing on any deer that you can legally shoot you are not helping with the problem. If you don't shoot spots, I will not hold anything against you. If you don't like the fact that I do shoot spots, tough sh!t. Shut your mouth and let me enjoy my venison that I earned. Not only will I have a full stomach, but that's one less deer to worry about killing somebody in a bad auto accident.

No one is making anyone shoot a small deer /doe.

Bow season has always began at the end of Sept.
Then in an effort to make hunters take more does, The state started the EAB program But gave us a whole month to shoot one.....The month of Sept. is a freebe!!! The only reason hunters feel pressured to shoot a Doe/Fawn/Antlerless deer, is so they can shoot a big buck if one comes by their stand or to kill it before their neighbor does!!!

Relax guys....traditionally speaking...We shouldn't even be hunting yet...This whole month is a bonus for us!!!
Am I right???
Correct me if I'm wrong!!

I don't know were all of you hunt. But if in my area you don't shoot the Deer's the farmer's with their Depredation permits send the Death squads in and they wipe them out.

Just ask anyone that hunts Hunterdon county around West Anwell, Kingwood, Flemington you name it. Over 300 shot by one farmer alone in West Amwel last year alone. Some of you guys here know were I'm talking about. And is the DFW that gives out the Depredetation permits. And this guys are not selective about spots or horns they shoot to get rid of the deer's and save their crops, 24/7.

We are our own worst enemies by being so selective in certain areas. Were I hunt you better show the Farmer or land owner that you are taking deer's any deer or you are out of there next year.

Is the farmers initials RF? He's still doing that I remember back 15 yrs ago people raising hell about him doing this[mad]He was instructing his shooters to take bad, but leithal shots so they would run off and die, so they wouldnt have to bury them[down]Heck he was shooting deer from trucks in peoples yards that weren't even near his properties!

on a diferent thread i posted this and no one comented on it

if it has spots its no good, but fast forward 1 week and the spots are gone then its ok
why is it that hunters feel the need to look down on other hunters just cause they dont like or agree with them, where does all the hollier than thou attitude come from.....

that hunter shot a legal deer thats all\....

oooohhhh it had spots, but if it had been born a few weeks earlier and had no spots then it would be ok...

as far as im concerned there is no pressure to shoot a deer this early eab is over very fast.. the guys that feel pressure are putting it on themselves because they want to get a shot at a decent buck before open season at the end of the month. i say dont rush to get it overwith enjoy the hunt...[up]

I personally don't give a crap if you shoot an embryo
I've got two in my freezer, came from my last doe last year. Does anyone have a recipe for them?
