I know for the youth pheasant day you have to sign up for, but do you have to sign up for the youth deer hunt too? I think the only reason they have to sign up for the pheasant hunt is so the state puts out the birds.

My nephew turned 10 in March and went for his license 2 days after. I am going to ask him if he would like to go deer hunting for the youth day on my club, but i just want to see if i have to do anything or just take him out.

Only thing you have to do is make your own deer tag, my friend from work just made a photo copy of his firearm deer tag, and blacked out his licese numbers

Keep your eyes open. Closer to the youth shotgun day, I'll post info on youth day drives around the state. We generally have the kids sit for the first light opportunity, then gather arround 8:00 am and do drives till 1 or 2. Then its back to the afternoon sit.

Warning, kids who are successful on the morning hunt will be drive dogs like the rest of us[rofl]

Make sure you send a letter or email to the division telling them of the day. There are some orgs. that would like to do a way with it.
WOW what orgs want to do that specificaly?

And because there are dog handlers who are helping out as guides... they need to be sure there are enough handlers at each WMA for the amount of kids signed up.

No.

I took her two years ago to Whittingham for youth day. She had a good time and got a nice rooster, but I wasn't happy with the arrangements.

I felt that the organization was a little sloppy and some kids were hunting opposite fields shooting toward other groups. We got pepered quite a bit. I didn't feel that it was the safest way to do things.

I was surprised too because Whittingham is a big WMA, and they only had about 70 kids-they broke them up into 10 groups and set them out in the 5 fields closest to the station on Springdale road. They could have spread the kids out much further like every other field, and that would have solved the problem.(would have required driving to the other side of the WMA where the rest of the fileds are)

I'm not sure why they had it set up that way.[confusedagain]
