I have been thinking about learning and purchasing tree climbing equipment for hunting. I have met three hunters who swear by it. One uses stirups and the other hunter uses rope climbers. My friend offered to teach me and demonstrate equipment. He stated it is nothing like hunting from a tree saddle. So my question who on NJH uses the same techinque for hunting and what is your opinion. I am seriously thinking about taking my friend up on his offer and buying equipment.

Interesting......I know of a spot in Zone 4 where someone must be using spikes to get up the tree. Sign is very obvious.

Can you use spikes for all trees?
(Meaning a smooth bark vs a rough bark)

I use the the tree climbing spikes when it is colder out. Using them in the beginning of the season I feel I get too sweated up. I got mine through SEMCOR. I also use the seat of the pants climbing harness when using the spikes and pack in a lone wolf hang on.

I'd like to see a demo of someone climbing a tree and hanging a lok-on, in person. And using a climbing harness (something to keep you from falling if your spiles slip). I live in the Randolph area, please PM me if you would like to show me, it would be much appreciated.

Its a great method....when its bone dry out, the tree is perfect and its not cold out.

If any of the above is present I hope ya always land on your feet.

Either way be careful b/c there is so much that can go wrong with spikes its not funny.
