$56.00 = hotzitotzi dinner for two or home made venison dinner for 30 your choice.
There's one big piece to this that you have completely forgotten. There's absolutely no guarantee that you'll shoot, let alone see a big buck. So it doesn't matter what you're comparing this to.

So its Gonna cost us $56.00 To Hunt Extended WOW!!
Maybe not so WOW when you consider that $56.00 is only about 2/3rds a tank of gas for my truck. [sad] That 2/3rds tank will last about 2 or 3 days, the permit is good for a little longer. ;)

David, buying the permit is not buying the buck...you are buying the opportunity to hunt the buck. What you do with that opportunity is up to you. Many guys will buy that permit and let a bunch of small bucks pass, so it isn't just about getting a buck for your permit, it's about getting much more, at least in my opinion. I do it for the quality time afield...if that quality is negatively impacted, then I may not buy the permits any longer and find something else to do.

Murphy's Law. (also known as the hunter's law or the fishermen's law)

No buck tag guarantees big buck in yer face.[ko]

Did I miss something here. I though it was the DFW that instituted the increase on the buck tags, and not Mr. Corozine. I don't hear anyone complaining about paying $100 ++ for a PA license to maybe get the chance to see a buck, or what ever NY charges for out of staters.

Come on Joe I know you drop twice that much in one night for Lap Dances[hihi][hihi] and then have to go home and deal with Mary and her five little fingers.

I completely agree that the buck tag doesn't guarantee you a buck. But the way I read Jakesbeard's post was that you could either spend the money on a dinner or get a buck. It still doesn't negate the fact that the state is looking for ways to screw the everyday hunter.

It's no wonder why less and less hunters are in the woods every year. Costs alot of $$$ and we NJ hunters get treated like a bunch of dogs from our crappy government.

You're right, JB put it in perspecitive, 28$ isn't a lot to pay for a hunting opportunity. But mulitiply that by 1000000 tags sold and you see the winfall for the state that pisses me and so many others off.

I will pay the $56, cause like some have said, not having the tag, that is when Mr. Big Boy will show up. Typical goverment will always have there hands in every cookie jar to get what they want, raising the cost of tags, etc. is his way of slowing us down, and showing he is THE MAN, do you really think 100% of the money will go back to Fish & Game? In the past didn't the NJ goverment take money from Fish & Game to support other pet projects, and the federal government told NJ if they don't give the money back, they may not get whatever federal grants that are avaiable? Love your country, fear your goverment

Maybe I've misread the code but wouldn't it be $28 per buck tag PER zone? So if you have 3 different zones you hunt, you'll have to spend $84 ($28 x 3) to get a buck. And to me, this is ALOT of extra $$$ to pay for a hunting opportunity.

David

yoda if you buy permits for different zones is $28 each. That part did not change. Is $28 for the buck tag. So if you hunt lets say 8-10-11 zone the one buck tag is good for any one of those zones.

Before you had the buck tag included with the license and then you just bough the zones that you were going to hunt. So is only $28 additional that your paying as compare to last year.

One buck tag which is good statewide. You have to buy the doe tag first, and one for each zone you want. Then you buy one buck tag which is good anywhere you have a doe tag.

However, if I'm reading things right, you will need to buy a separate buck tag for each season (permit bow, muzzy, permit shotgun).

So that adds up to an extra $84 per year more than you would normally spend.Since some here make ALOT more $ than others here doesn't mean we're ALL happy about it-I know I'm not happy about it.Last I checked money doesn't grow on trees. [down]

Money is money and it all adds up. That is why I probably will buy a buck tag for permit bow, when you can really try and lure in a buck, but not for the other seasons (I don't hunt muzzy in NJ, which helps the decision). Yes, Murphy's Law is out there, but it just doesn't matter that much to me. In sane states, you usually only get one or two buck tags for the whole year. What if you tag out and then see a monster? We are a little spoiled here with all these buck tags floating around.

If there was any sanity, you would get one buck tag with your license (bowhunter or firearm) to use anytime, and be able to buy one more for use anytime. In defense of F&W, the doe to buck kill ratio is almost 4:1 in NJ, which is pretty good; which is why they probably figure they can give away so many tags.

what it comes down to is it just sux... I dont care about how much dinner costs and some other theories but come on the extra $28 for the buck tag for muzzle bow and shotgun sux... I mean I love to hunt and i go a ton I love every weapon so $56x3 and the other $12 for the rifle permit wich is another waste It just adds up to a ton of money to hunt Jersey Deer. For guys who small game turkey and fish it costs more $$$$ keep making us empty out the bank account.
