Looks like we are back to the normal trout stocking schedule, with no pre season "catch and release". I am happy we are going back to the old way. Which way do you guys prefer?
I'm glad its back to normal! There was way too many people keeping the trout during the "catch and release" season and also, A LOT of trout died from swallowing hooks or mishandling.Looks like we are back to the normal trout stocking schedule, with no pre season "catch and release". Yea I hear you about opening day, however I can't deal with crowds but still like to get out for the history. I'll hit a local in the late afternoon, still guys there however not like the morning insanity.Maybe I'm just an old kid, but I find it more exciting to wait for "Opening Day", and taking my stringer of trout home for dinner.![]()
Yes, no way I would fish a stream for the 8am start. I always pick a stocked lake where there is plenty of room to spread out along the shore.Yea I hear you about opening day, however I can't deal with crowds but still like to get out for the history. I agree. Lol. I get more excited than my son hahaMaybe I'm just an old kid, but I find it more exciting to wait for "Opening Day", and taking my stringer of trout home for dinner.![]()
There's lots of hold over trout in the streams and lakes/ponds. Good luck if that's what you're targeting!I'm thinking about going out tomorrow for a few hours. Going to be up near 70 again.
Going to throw some rapalas and spinners in the Paulinskill midday tomorrow. I'll post the results. The air temps are warm but I'm thinking there is some frozen runoff still feeding the river. We'll see. There's lots of hold over trout in the streams and lakes/ponds. Good luck if that's what you're targeting!
Fished for about an hour and a half. Water temp was somewhere between damn cold and ice. Didn't have my thermometer. Had one nice fish hit my spinner and I saw him turn and get off. Had one other small trout follow my spinner in. Nice and warm out. Started blowing up for a storm when I left. There's lots of hold over trout in the streams and lakes/ponds. Where did you go? Water was very cold on the Paulinskill.Went out yesterday Skunk!
THE OLD WAY OF COURSE. 7 in season stockingsLooks like we are back to the normal trout stocking schedule, with no pre season "catch and release". I am happy we are going back to the old way. Which way do you guys prefer?
Not sure what you mean by that. I don't keep wild Trout, nor Trout that are caught in hold-over streams. I will keep a few from "Put and Take" streams (upper Musky, Rockaway) that get to warm to hold-over Trout in the Summer months.Agreed, the term "Put and Take" isn't what fishing is all about.
You are using the system as designed. Its the ones with the mentality "I have to get my money's worth" that make multiple trips in the same day to stock the freezer. Its the same story with pheasant stocking. The state should do away with dates, times and maps, it would let the fish and birds spread out and cut down on the mob scene at the stocking points. Not sure what you mean by that.
