sorry njplotts, your right. i know a buddy had a hard time in the state woods this year with dogs. but most of his problems were with the housing development across the street. they ride in the car as the dog gets his walk. i used to run fox with a guy, he hated snares. some of the **** hound guys don't like us. but i'm legal and have rights. i see alot of hard fellings on other sites about snares. but alot of states allow dispatch springs, a neck caught dog doesn't fare well. sorry about the generalization of houndsmen.

i snared me a wife!!! worse thing i ever caught!![rofl][rofl][rofl]

all kidding aside, i love trapping and all aspects of it.wish i had the time and land to do it[up]

hey bloodtrails take it easy ok. there is no reason for you to talk to me like that ok. im not against it at all if you would shut your mouth and not coment like a 3 yo you would be ok. belive me me ive been around all this stuff my whole life. im in the outdoors every day of my life .
If you have been around this stuff all your life why would you make such an ignorant comment?

dont ever call me ignorent ever again.
I promise I never will. I can spell.

I used to trap, fox, *****, mink and muskrat, all with leg holds in the 70's, highschool days, I made a good buck, fox was going for 60-80 bucks a pelt
***** 20-30, rats were $4-7

I'd appreciate any advice on setting snares, I'd like to get back into it and show my son how great trapping is, you really need to learn how to think like an animal, be sent free and must learn about the animals habitat and traits, and you see some amazing things being in the woods at day break while checking your traps.

Any books or advice on snares?

Sounds like some lazy a$$ Hunterwoods residents. Glassboro WMA.
you got it. it's like trolling dogs. also guys near the dog training areas, i said near, not in.
Any books or advice on snares?
i would get Newt Sterlings master racoon snaring. it shows everything for the newbe. making snares, making swivel jigs, basic sets, actual catches. very good video also in paper back i think.

It is something I might be interested in. I wouldn't mind tagging along one day with someone checking their traps to see what it is like. Unless it is illegal to shadow a trapper.

pm me in late january to mid march. i'd take you. 99% of my checks are by truck, you can hang and check a lot of wire by truck. i don't start till the end of deer season, first things first.

ub, nice job .. I used to go with pop to check his traps all the time.. He loved to trap.. it is truly a labor of love..he would spend hours skinning and fleshing animals, especialy beaver... He had a racoon coat made for mom out of the animals he caught, skinned, fleshed, and tanned himself.. he frequently got highest grade at auction..

Snares catch critters by the neck or body.
The six inch deer stop would prevent them from getting caught by the foot.

And ..NO...they don't chew their leg off in a trap either !!!
pop did catch a small doe once WITH the deer stop.. Man That was a sight to see watching him tackle the deer to let it go.. I also got bit once by an otter tha pop accidently caught in a snare that we released.. That wasnt fun..:D

Is that blood in the coyote pic? How did that happen? I heard coyotes will chew their leg off if snared? true/false?
that is blood. a lot of times a animal focues on a object. they chew on sticks, rocks ect. i think it's something they do when stressed. the grey fox pic shows the same thing. a snare catches by the neck, not foot. even with a leg hold, i'm told the chewing on the foot is mainly ****, not so much k9. it's something **** just do if there is nothing to fixate on, so give them a stick.

Where do you take the pelt's to turn them in? I hear muskrat's are good eating, Not sure about eatting the rest in that list.
