I shot a 8 pointer on Saturday, followed the blood trail for a couple of hundred yards, and lost it. I went back Sunday with no luck. I haven't lost a deer in years, and I felt sick to my stomach.

My Muzzys were shooting OK but not great before, but now they're all over the place. I can't figure out what changed. My field points fly perfectly. I've always found the both the original and the MX-3s to be temperamental.

I'm guessing I could spend another few hours tuning, but with one little change, everything will be thrown off again. Or I can buy a bunch of other brands and find the one that shoots well. I'm shooting Easton ACCs off a Hoyt Carbon Matrix. Anyone else having success with fixed blades with this bow? I've spent hours and hours tuning, including paper tuning, and can't get them to fly perfectly.

After resisting mechanicals for years, I finally ordered some Rage's. I'm looking forward to seeing how they work.

Yes,true,,,,a perfectly tuned bow will shoot everything. And yes, those that can not tuned themselves for whatever reason use mechanical broadheads.

Mr Booger,, your timing is probably out. Only way to check would be putting it on a draw board. It can happen very quickly and now you think your bow is crap. I'd first check the specs first, if your brace height is off, axcel to axcel is long, then your timing is off.

I learned all this stuff by trial and error when I competed in archery. I don't know of any bow shops in NJ, but there are plenty of bow mechanics, that can check your bow and tune it completely. It takes some time to get the bow perfect. I just set up a Obsession for hunting,,took two weeks to get it right. But I can shoot a broadheads and field points side by side at 80 yrds.

Google " walk back tuning " best guy to read from is NutsnBolts on archerytalk. It's a pretty simple thing to do to see how bad the bow is. Some slight rest adjustments might make the shooting more tolerable but won't fix it 100%.
Don't blame the broadheads and don't throw your bow in the river.
If you want to spend $60 and have a perfect bow call this guy,, best in the business, Scott at SH Archery , (724) 919-9237. He's in Pa and can usually have a bow returned to you in under a week

Thanks for the very helpful post, Booner. I've tried walkback tuning with no success. However, I think there's a very good chance my bow needs adjustment, as I haven't done anything to it in the past couple of years. (I'll admit...I've been crossbow hunting.)

It's really hard to find a good bow shop these days. I'll note down Scott's number and will call him at the end of the season.

Tuning a bow isnt rocket science. especially today with all the info you can find on you tube.
just shooting as mechanical isnt the answer, as while you may hit in the area you want, without proper bow tune, you will drastically knock down your penetration .
its VERY important to have your arrow flight correct to get the best perfomance out of your set up.

Thanks for all the input. I don't doubt that there's a better solution, and I'm partly or mostly to blame. My plan is to hunt with the mechanicals this season then send my bow out for proper adjustment and give the fixed blades another try.

If your near Ocean County NJ you could try Mike at A&M Archery in Lakewood. He's a bit grumpy/gruff but he knows his stuff.
Hes usually alone and plan on being there an hour or more just to help you put, especially at peak time. He also closes between 4-6 pm daily for his dinner break, open to 10pm, closes at 3 on Sat closed on Sunday.

Another great post added by Lunatic. When your arrow flies sideways thru the air, and lose energy and lose a deer, let me know how it feels.
If a arrow does not leave the bow true, mechanicals won't fix it. Shoot thru two trees or a tight spot and you think you hit that invisible twig when your arrow hits something. It very well mite be your broadheads made it thru there, but your nock is 2"s somewhere else and that's what caused the deflection.
If any of you guys are in Monmouth county, and need some help,pm me

I know Mike from A&M, and while I respect him, he's not going to tune a bow for you,for any amount of money. Bow shops just throw a rest on it and says Practice. Some bows are easy to tune with a split yoke others don't have it and require shims. Most shops would rather sell another bow than fix factory mistakes.

That's another thing that bothers me,,, spend $1000+ on a new bow and it's not close to spec. I just bought a Obsession, smaller company, you'd think less mass production, more personalized set up. Nope, had to order shims from them to fix my cam lean. I told them they should give them to me free. They said,,Eh, bows are shipped close to spec and you owe us $25 for the shims

I would told them you were going to post that shit on archery talk.
probably would sent a new bow instead of the shims.

manufactures just throw bows together today. takes a few hours to get them adjusted correctly before even starting to tune it.

Mike is where I bought my bow and he tuned it. I think you need to go back a couple times a year to be sure they fly straight. Strings stretch things wear
If you bought your stuff there Mike will help you out as much as possible. If you bought elsewhere or online your usually SOL unless he's not busy at all...Full range in back as well.

If you can't get your fixed blades to shoot right than by all means shoot mechanicals. There are lots of good ones out there. It is imperative that the arrows are flying true, not nock up/down or right/left. You lose kinetic energy that way. If they fly straight with FP's then why mess with fixed blades.

More than likely they aren't flying straight.
But it's not as visible.
When the broadhead is added it exagerates it making it more visible.
Muzzy broadheads are very easily tuned to 400 fps.
So if he is having issues as stated his bow isnt even close to tuned
