Help With State Land

I'd like to take my sons dog out in the field.
He's a lab mix that loves to run.Im looking for advice on state land that has water or lake or even a pond where can also swim.
I live in Essex county.

Clinton WMA has a dog training area on the south side of Van Syckels Road west of the park entrance with a trail that leads down to the reservoir. I've run/swum my dog there many times. Round Valley (a few minutes closer to you off of Route 78) has plenty of places for your dog to swim as well.
