I've got a Nikon Omega on my Omega (thanks Fern) and I love it [up]

i have the hr 20 gauge with a swift scope. i wanted a small 4 power scope but i bought it on a whim and took the scope becouse they didnt have much choice. i have shot three deer with the gun and i can make 3 inch groups at 100 yards. its a cheep gun i wouldnt go crazy with a scope, but thats just me.

I don't have the HR but I do have the T/C and an 11-87 that are both set up for deer. Both have Leupold's 2-7X Shotgun scope on them. More than enough for NJ deer hunting.

I was also thinking of just using the buckmaster 3-9 I have
Make up your mind will ya[rofl]

My H+R is a cheap gun just for shooting NJ deer with so I put a 1.5-5 Cheap A$$ Simons scope on it.
Good enough, the last year I hunted with it 04/05 I killed 11 deer with it with out a hitch it is NOT a Sheep gun. I seldom shoot past 60 yds and I have yet to have to look for ANY deer I have shot with that 20ga.H+R
Put the fancy glass on a 300WinMag. and go to Alberta if you want to spend Money.

I started off with a 4x Simmons shotgun scope on my H&R ultra slug hunter deluxe 20 ga, then wanted more magnification because the gun shot so well. I had a 4-12x40 Swift Premire sitting around so I put it on. It is a bit of overkill on a shotgun but it has worked very well for me. If I had to buy a new scope for it I would opt for a 2-7 or 3-9, probably a leupold shotgun scope.

I feel your gun is only good as the scope.....Cheap scope breaks in the middle of a hunt, no iron sights what do you do? You go to the store purchase a new scope

While I understand your thinking on the scope, let's focus on reality. Your shooting deer/bear sizes targets at in all reallity, will be under 100 yards and in all probability, under or around 50. A 3-9x40 is overkill. Your not shooting chucks or ground squirrels. If your scope breaks, it's because you dropped your gun, or slammed it on something. Even with a good scope, just bumping it warrants a trip to the range to verify it is still zeroed in. If your dead set on spending your money, buy a really good 1.5 to 5, and when you bump it, it will still be off as much as the cheapy.

It would be a different story if you were hunting Altay Argalai, Dagastan Tur, or Desert Bighorns, where your shots can be over 400 yards, but we're talking whitetails and maybe bears, and in NJ that's an under 100 yard game. Hell, I'd go so far as to say I'd take that same rig to hunt Africa for plains game. With a 2 3/4 slug, I'm lethal to 200 yards, although, hunting here, I don't need to reach out that far. I'm more than confident, that that gun would be more than andequate on a kudu or waterbuck, provided, only, that a broadside shot on a relaxed animal was taken. We give entirely too much credit to whitetails. The game is real simple, put any size chunk of lead into the vitals, results will always yield a dead deer.

I'm also heading to the Midwest for deer, I agree 3-9 is alot of scope, but I like them, it is a mental thing, I have 1.5-4 on 2 other slug guns and I just don't care for them
