I'm in the market for a bolt action rifle in 308 something for the range 300yds max and maybe hunting if I ever get to hunt outa state, I here a lot that Remington's are hit or miss on getting a decent one but was looking at the savage 10 fcp-sr just wondering how savages are, Thanks

Savage has replaced the Remington in every way but looks. Shoots great right out of the box. Reliable and trouble free. Priced for the working man with many models under 400 dolllars. You could describe them as everything Remington was 15 years ago. But they are god awful ugly. [hihi]

I have to disagree. Yes, Remington has cut some corners in recent years but it is by far your poor man's rifle special.

Hands. Down they putting out a better product then remingtion. Plus the accura trigger is awesome. Ps I own like 7 remingtion rifles they are all older. They putting out shit plain and simple. When you paying 900 plus for a gun is should not be hit or miss. Ps remingtion has ruined many gun company Marlin , h.r , and I am sure I am. Missing a few .

Just my two cents

I Had a model 99 in 300 Savage, for a quincentennial New England deer gun ...They love them. My brother in law in Vermont is shooting one his dad had, purchased in the 50's. I shot a model 94 Winchester 30/30 and the qualit and performance beat the Winchester. 300 Savage is a heck of a round.

I bought both brands in the last 3 weeks a Savage model 93r FVSR in .17 caliber and a Remington 700 Tactical in 223 caliber bought new Scopes for both and tried a couple of different rounds in both found out what each rifle liked and I cant complain about either rifle I have about 300 rounds throughthe Savage and 80 rounds through the Remington. The trigger on the Savage is set extreemly light out of the box and the Remington trigger is very nice breaks real crisp. For the money the Savage cant be beat but I realy like that 700. Savage $340 Remington $640. Dont know about all the issues with the Remington maybe I got one of the good ones good luck with your choice bythe time this thread finishes you'll probably be more undecided than when it started

John, as a few guys have noted the Accuracy out of the box and the Accutriggers make Savages tough to beat in their price range. Also take a look at Howa and Tikka, which are also very good quality for the money.

Like NorthNJHunter, I'd tell you to look a the Ruger American. They are certainly worth consideration. I have been shooting a few recently . Impressive accuracy out of a inexpensive rifle.

I own, shoot and hunt with all of the aforementioned rifles. You wont go wrong with any of them. It comes down to personal preference and your price range.

When I looked for an entry level gun for my son I picked up a Ruger American , T/C Venture and a Browning Midas (???) at Cheyenne , they were all similarly priced . The Venture got the nod as far as smooth action and fit /finish , the browning was nice too but fit and finish went to the venture for the money (Browning was most expensive) . Ruger felt like toy and action was clunky and sticky . I own several Rem 700's, all pre 2010 , I never had a trigger problem, actions are smooth and all shoot like hell. Good Luck

savage makes a great gun for the price. my last purchase i went with a tikka in 243 cal and its a great shooting gun with super smooth action. i wouldnt say it is any more accurate than a savage but it sure is pretty and very nice to handle.
