You have any thoughts on the boat? If you want to email me, mmateyak@hotmail.com

Who else is in? Dale? Rick? Tom (lefteye), you coming?

I know Schues and his dad are looking to get in on a trip this year. I have at least one buddy that is interested as well...so if Dale, Rick, and Tom aren't going...we can probably get the spots filled pretty quickly so we can commit to the charter sooner than later.

About the boat...

Welcome aboard the Defiant, the Defiant is a 2004 Wesmac, custom sport fishing vessel. The Defiant has a 15' beam and an overall length of 43' feet. Powered by a 3406E Cat, the Defiant cruises at 23 knots and has a top speed of 27.5 knots. The Defiant also has an 11.5 KW Onan generator to supply us with electric power once we leave the dock.

Knowing the needs of hardcore fisherman the Defiant has a massive 260 sq. foot cockpit and a 600 gallon fish hold with a built in ice maker to keep your catch as fresh as the moment you caught it. In our cockpit you will also find 14 custom swivel rod holders and top of the line CJ outriggers. You will also be using some of the finest fishing tackle in the business that is professionally maintained and replaced on a yearly basis.

Not only is the Defiant built for all out fishing it was also built for comfort and luxury. The inside of the Defiant is finished in oiled Mahogony and trim, has a large L-shaped seating area and bench and is outfitted with a state of the art entertainment system with surround sound and 2 LCD T.V's for your viewing pleasure on the way out to the fishing grounds, along with a Sirius radio system. The Defiant also features a large galley, with a convection oven and microwave for cooking and heating of food. On board we also have a forward stateroom with a V-berth and bunks, for our overnight trips, and most of all the Defiant is well equipped with a 34,000 BTU AC & Heating system.

On the Defiant you have some of today's best electronics and weather technology giving us the advantage over the rest of the fleet, also most importantly we have some of the best safety and emergency equipment available in the marine industry. Not to mention a highly experienced crew.

The Defiant has proven to be a serious fish catching machine and is one of the most unique vessels in its class. So come aboard and catch the fish of your dreams!!!!

Pretty big boat, very roomy stern...the only downside might be cabin and bunk space...but we are going fishing, so it's not a super big deal...I can get by resting on the floor if I need to :)

Boat looks like it cruises nice, and appears like plenty of room. From some of the pics it looks like they have a livewell they bring along as well.

I definitely agree, Jay was awesome...you know we'll have a good time with him and he won't hold us back from getting involved! [up]

I'm down for giving them a go...just need to know who else from the old crew is in and who's out...so we can get the spots filled and commit to the charter.

Rich, I can find out...he recommends the 3rd or 4th week of September. Midweek, Tues/Wed or Wed/Thurs to avoid the crowds...but he says they sail all week...we could do a Sat/Sun trip but boat traffic and putting down the fish can be a negative to that.

OK I just spoke with Captain Adam.

He said that he and Jay run all trips, so there is no double booking. They've both been offshore fishing for many years (more than commercial), and commercial offshore fishing for the last 8 in Mass. And both fish year round, so this is their business, not a part time gig.

Trips leave usually 9AM day of, get out to the canyon at 1PM and troll til dark. Then go on the chunk all night and head back in the AM. He said they usually have the boxes filled by daybreak, so they are normally heading right back, but if it was a slow trip they'll troll the morning too. Latest they'll be back at the dock is 3PM.

Being in offshore both commerical and recreational, they have all the gear we could possibly need. He said belt wise (problem last time) they have 9 belts, but only 4 will be on at a time...he doesn't anticipate or want to fight more than 4 fish at a time on a 6 pack charter (understandable).

He said the trip is totally hands on...chunking at night, we can also drop jigs down if we have lots of energy to burn. He said, however we want to get involved we can...totally up to us. He said if a rod gets hit and a fish is on...run over and grab it...go at it (the way it should be). I stressed that we were more interested in the whole experience, even if it means we lose a few fish or whatnot.

To be honest, I felt like a complete ass asking him half the questions I did...these questions seem so ridiculous that I'm sure he was like "is this guy really asking these questions"...well that's how I felt at least...but after last years experience...I wanted to MAKE SURE we don't repeat into a similar situation.

Right now all days are open, including weekends. In speaking with Adam, it sounds like they have a lot of multi-trip/liberal clients which have "soft" dates in that he can move them around with flexibility...so he is giving us dibs on dates as of right now.

He said the owner hasn't bumped prices yet, last year was $3200 and he said he can get us in for that price. It'd be nice if he could budge down a bit, we'll see maybe Jay will read this and push for a bump down! :D I know of a few that have great reps and are running a bit cheaper.

If there are other boats you want to check out, lemme know.
