Congrats!! Great deer n story! An old Indian trick u have discovered,.....and a tactic that the Maine Benoit crew uses....follow those tracks...sometimes for days....sometimes switching out guys due to fatigue, ..... wear em down....eventually u will get your chance.

You would have a rough time pulling this tactic off in NJ because after a half hour of tracking you would be trespassing on someone else's property[hihi]
 
Not trying to steal your moment but I have killed a few deer in a spot and stalk situation. This year I spot and stalked a broken rack buck on the last day of the regular bow season. The small parcel I hunt by my house has an apple orchard in front of some thick woods. I saw the deer cross the road and enter the orchard. Keep in mind there was still leaves on the trees. I walked up and down the rows very carefully and spotted him before he entered the woods. I made a 40 yd. double lung shot on him. One of my best hunts to date even if he didn't have much headgear. Congrats again!
