Matt - man am I shocked [spy] I would've thought the SBE2 would have given you better patterns than that.

Personally, I pattern my gun at 40 yds because that'll separate the good loads from the weaker ones. One question, did you use any kind of gun vise or whatever while patterning?

If you want, maybe one day we'll hook up and do some shooting. I've got a bunch of turkey loads, 3" though, and show you what my Mossberg 500 does and so forth.

I shot off my predator ground chair with the gun resting on my knee. Not viced...don't have a table I can carry around and going to a range (Fort Dix) or Colliers Mills can be a tedious wait between shots. I like shooting at Woodruff! :)

One tip I just got was to shoot at bigger paper to really see how the pattern spreads. The guys over on NWTF think the guns point of impact may be different than the point of aim...and larger paper will show that. So I'll be trying that next, probably starting with the Hevi-13 to see how it throws.

Still collecting info on how better to pattern the gun, but it appears the first thing is to shoot much bigger paper than that turkey target.

Here's a cheap setup that you can use. Go to Office Depot. They sell a roll of brown paper that's like 3' x 150' for ~ $10. Just put a black dot on it using spray paint and you'll be good to go.

When are you planning on shooting again? Let me know.

Matt, we have a meeting there from 9 til like 10 or 1030. Tom Daly will be shooting after the meeting. I got to see if i have softball practice or not that day. If i do, i wont be shooting after but your more than welcome to go down there and shoot.

Same thing with my 11/87 so I put a red-dot scope on it.

Was the cardboard backing a lot bigger than your turkey target? If it was I don't think POI was at fault.

BHNJ, if you pattern that gun again, circle with a bright marker the shot that hit the head/neck area. It will give you a better idea of which load is working for you.

I shoot 4X5X7 Nitro Hevi-shot(3.5") thru a TruGlo GobblerStopper Choke and I almost have to shoot BEFORE he gets WITH-IN 30 yards !!!
It's that tight!!!!! I put a Bushnell Holosite on my Gun so that I wouldn't blow the whole wad right past his head.
As other have said....Those patterns SUCK.
Nitros are about $6.00 a shell (OUCH) But how many times do you shoot while turkey hunting ???
The guys on the NWTF site are nitro fanatics...And for a good reason!!!

friend of mine has the NOVA, he only deer hunts and uses buckshot, no matter what brand, no matter what size buckshot he used the thing wouldn't pattern, he sold it

BUT IT JUST MAY BE THE GUN
That's why I got the Browning Gold instead of a SBE II. I'll post my turkey patterns after I get some time away from work and can hit the range. Too bad the range at Black River is only open 9-5. They built a noise barrier to protect the nieghboring homes from the noise. Range should be open dawn to dusk if noise is not an issue.

Nice site, I'm sure some here have seen it...but lots of good info and services.

SBE2 guys are reporting getting 300-350 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards with the .660 Rhino with 3.5" 4x5x7 Heavy Shot loads recommended by Nitro.

Pretty sick.
I tried to tell these guys last year about Nitro but there was little or no interest? Also their buckshot loads are just as impressive as their turkey loads, they're getting 100% patterns at 50-60 yards+
