Safari Club International only for the elite? Well, it's been said that it is. But the organization is trying to shake its "elite" image and show everyone that it stands for ALL hunters. SCI has a lobbying office in DC and continually fights for domestic hunting - its been here in the NJ courts fighting on several front - including the bear hunt.

Anyway, below is an article showing how they fight for the little guy too. It is an example of a "small problem" for all hunters that they helped to correct.

Northwest Policy Change is Victory for Hunters!

Crosshairs is pleased to report that Northwest Airlines has reversed its policy of levying an "oversized" fee of $300 for long gun cases on overseas flights. The airline will now include gun cases as part of the "free luggage allowance" for overseas travelers. In addition, Northwest has specifically exempted gun cases from the 62" linear inch size limit (length plus height plus width) for all of its flights. This exemption makes Northwest more hospitable to hunters than most other airlines. The new policy can be found at: http://www.nwa.com/travel/luggage/specialitems.html#fire

SCI lobbyist John Green made contact with Northwest representatives in the nation's capital just hours after SCI's alert caught the attention of Northwest executives. Northwest then consulted with NRA Chief Lobbyist Chris Cox, who was preparing to send an alert to NRA members. Northwest acted with great speed and haste to address these issues, and posted the new policy to its website within an hour. SCI is grateful to Chris Cox and his staff at NRA-ILA for their assistance in addressing this matter.

"In the Crosshairs" is a free e-mail service to SCI members.

All should join SCI, way more important than most organizations. Don't jump on me I didn't name names, just join. Now your local chapter is still subject to those that run it you might not favor. Don't let that get in your way, join today and unight. Your attached to a local chaper if your involved but you belong to the National.[cool]

My moosseeumm has 2 SCI Hunts in it from 1991.

Caribou was 1,350.00 a 5,000 hunt.
The Cat was 1,850.00 a 5,000 hunt.
A deer hunt in Alberta was 1,750.00 and I sold it a year later for the same money to go somewhere else.

I bought 3 hunts in 1991 for 4,950.00 a 15,000.00 value and all were 100%. The deer hunt I didn't go on was 100%. I was going to upgrade to Elk but went Elk with anoher outfitter in MT. who blew my shot for me because he didn't know where I was.

Thats another benifit to purchasing organization hunts.

Local chapter. Thats not true about good hunts. Great Hunts are at the local chapters especially Lehigh in fogelsville.

I should have bought grizzly and sheep hunts when I could because now they are out of site.

Plenty of deals around. Then it was truly a bid but now they have the minimal bids and the deals aren't quit as good but don't get me wrong they are still great.

Those prices didn't include airfair, licences or any other costs. They were for the outfitter only.

Oh by the way SCI has a deal now going for 10.00 bucks to join and what a steel and benifit.

I would rather belong to an Archery chapter but around this area I don't know of any.

There needs to be one and always did but never seemed to be enough partisapation for some reason.

HOLY CRAP!!!! Cat you are an English scholar!!![cool]

Where did you see the $10 membership? I looked at it and I saw numbers more like $80. Not that I don't want to support SCI, I do, and I will eventually. But, being a new hunter, there are many organizations I want to support and $80 here, $35 there, adds up to real money eventually. ;) If you have a link, please post it.

I will definitely join before the end of the year. Just spacing things out. Since I will be turkey hunting for the first time, I just joined NWTF.
