I am in the market for a new gun safe. It will need to hold 20-25 long arms. This will fit the guns that I have now plus if/when I buy more. Please let me know who owns or has information on gun safes. Is there anything that you think that I should look for before purchasing (features). Most of the companies that sell safes say that there is curb side delivery. I don't feel like leaving my nuts on the ground moving the safe so does anyone know if there is any in home delivery. Thanks.....There goes my tax return!!!!!!! Thanks Dave

I own a remington safe that I bought at Dick's a few years back that's suppose to hold like 18-20 long guns. It is a nice big sturdy safe but I would'nt keep more than 10 or 12 at a time because space is very tight with the recommended capacity and the guns seem to find a way of banging into one another and causing minor dings especially from the floor vibration caused by walking by it on a daily basis. As long as you space the guns out inside with ample space between them, there shouldnt be a problem. So, buy the largest capacity that you can afford ,especially if you plan on buying more guns and even if you dont plan on buying more ,new one's seem to accumulate out of nowhere![hihi]As far as delivery goes, you gotta check with the individual distributor on that one . I used the help of some friends that brag about going to the gym everyday and held them to it! Once I plan on moving ,I will hire a professional mover to get it to where it,s gotta go and if someone tries to steal it when im not home, they will definitly leave thier nuts on the floor trying to remove it or kill themselves trying to get it down the stairs !

look at the liberty models, they make some great gun safes for the money. they just might have what your looking for[up]

I have a Liberty fire proof model. Very heavy. If your long guns have scopes you need to double the capacity number. The scopes really take up space. Also, invest in a set of piano dollies. That is how the professional movers move the safe. They are about $120 to $160 on the net. You can move the safe to just about anywhere by yourself with a set - just not up any steps. Professional movers usually get $150 - $300 to move the safe into a level 1 story home. If up steps they charge some huge amount per step.

That's a nice safe Double J. I bought an inexpensive one from Dick's a year ago just as a secure place to store my firearms. I may in the future look for something like that as my present safe is starting to fill up quickly.

Check this guy out,I've been looking for one myself and been in touch with him,his prices are very reasonable, they seem like decent safes for the money

Contact him and ask him what his monthly specials are.

I have a Liberty and really like it. Holds 36 long arms and plenty of shelves for the handguns[up]

I'm also thinking about a safe to replace the cheap steel cabinet I use.

As far as protection against someone breaking into it in your home .... it takes an expert to do it, and an expert can break into any one of them. So, those very expensive, top-of-line models, with the elaborant locking features, may not be important for us.

I'm going to look for fire protection, as I am going to get a model that has some shelves for expensive electronics, irreplaceble photo albums, etc.

And I think that you have to be careful with fire protection ratings. What rating is minimun needed? And who is doing the rating?

I think I may look at Browning's (or a similar company's) budget models as far as theft protection goes, but with a high fire protection rating.

I'm looking into an "in-wall" safe. Doesn't hold a lot of guns (about 4 long guns, but room enough for my hand guns as well). I have to find the manufacturer, it was in last month's Rifleman.

WHat JJoe said!
I got a Liberty from the Sportsmens Center THE BIG ONE both TALL and wide so I can even store custom longbows in it YES after my HOUSE burned down I and my wife became VERY interested in FIRE PROOF GUN SAFES.
The Sportsmens Center not only Deliverd but INSTALLED for a very resonable price and I would do it that way with that safe and that store all over again if I had to.
They come with the safe they install they go YOUR ALL SET and for about the same money as if you got one at the Harrisburg show and put it in your self.

JB - I'm with you on "fire-proof". I'm wondering if the in-walls are fireproof and if so, what is the temp rating?

I was wondering if you put your safe in the basement and if a fire occurs, obviously the water from the Fire Department would accumulate in the basement. I would also imagine the water would seep into the safe thus soaking your guns. Where's the best place to put a safe in your home? I was thinking on a section of the house that is not over the basement for this reason. Let me know what everyone has heard/does.
