About 10 years ago when I first got my USH I bought a few different slugs and came up with the copper solids shooting awesome. After buck week I plan on trying again with accutips or others that were not available back in 06. What does your HR shoot?

Im still using the copper solids this year since they shoot very well out of my gun, I just wanted to try others that were not out when I initially tested the gun. If I find something that shoots better I might try them for next season, if not I will stick to the copper solids. I don't see what the problem with off season experimenting is.

My H&R seems to shoot anything well. I used to shoot the 2 3/4 lightfields and had good success with them. I switched to 3 inch accu tips because I got a pile of them when I bought my Savage 220. Both guns shoot them great and its just more convenient for me and my son to shoot the same ammo.

I'd say, as long as you're out getting time behind the gun, shoot anything you can play around with. It's just fun practice right? Some guys find one load and end up shooting the gun once a year. They hit the range, fire a handful of shots to make sure the zero is on and that's all the practice they get.

Best of luck, enjoy shooting . I hope it pays off for you.

You are looking at 2 different things, at least you should be! First is accuracy, You need to be able to hit your point of aim with little deviation, If you cant hold a group, they you should NOT be in the field hunting whether it's the gun or you. Then and this is just as important and sometimes more, What happens the moment the "Slug" touches the deer. If the slug does not do it's job the deer will need to tracked and found on a less then perfect shot.

Like the Duke said, If everything works and all your deer are recovered, why change? Well because you can.
I own 3 H&R 20 gauges and they all shoot very well with just about anything that is thrown down the tube, AccuTips are a tad more accurate, however Lightfields are my choice for stopping power. There are people that don't like the round do to the fact that 80% of the slugs do NOT exit the deer even though the deer does not go 5 yards.
The best groups for me were the Hastings Lazer's.

Agreed ... "Precision is paramount!" Accuracy is quickly followed by lethality.

Now, all slugs will kill a deer. I know this goes against all the AccuTip advocates, but I've seen more deer needing a coup de grâce second shot to put them out of their misery with 20ga AccuTips than any other slug. I have no idea why. And I've seen hundreds of deer slug shot. Lightfields are like shooting a boat anchor after 100 yards ballistically, but they sure do hammer deer to the ground.

Personally, I shoot deer with Federal Barnes Tipped out of a 12ga semi. I've shot just about every slug out there in both 20ga & 12ga.

I just got done siting my H & R 20 gauge!! I shot three different rounds through it with ample cooling time in between each round. Hornady SST's Lightfield and Accutips. My gun liked the Hornady's better. It threw the light fields and accutips all over the paper. The hornady's were touching at 100 yes. and 1/2 inch low at 150yds. I have 2 deer dead already with it. Its what my gun likes and just my 2 cents!!
