What do you guys use or recommend for a treestand haul line rope? The reviews on pretty much all of the ones I see for sale on amazon say they tangle quite easily, have a lot of memory and dont drape well, or that the rope is poor quality and is frayed right out of the package. Others have cheap plastic clips. Do you buy ones already set up or buy rope from somewhere and add your own carabiners?
Need one for shotgun and another for my backpack.
What do you guys recommend?

I use thin climbing rope and put a carabiner on the bottom. That way I can clip it to my stand when I get down and the wind doesn't wrap it all over the place. Also makes it easier to clip to whatever I'm pulling up

Where do you get it? What kind of rope is it?

Any camping, outdoor store or the Internet will have it. Just google "prusik rope" and you'll get results. You don't have to buy quality rope from Bluewater or other climbing stores, it's only a haul rope. You pull your gear up, coil it up and put it away until you pack up to leave.

Camo string that I brought at the sporting goods store. I never really thought that much about my haul line. :p. I guess that's what happens when you spend hours in a treestand. [ko] On stands I leave in the woods I leave my haul lines attached and tie them off to the tree or a step when I leave. Otherwise the wind will blow it up in the branches

Anything retractable you crank up. I feel if you use a haul line and pull it up by hand you are making a huge scent wick to hang from your stand.
I have always felt the same way but after having deer 2 feet from my haul line minutes after using it about a thousand times I ruled it out. Also have countless pics of deer sniffing cameras 20 minutes after checking them that I no longer worry about that stuff.

Paracord here. The key is to unwrap it just the opposite way you wrapped it so it doesn't tangle. I have two diff clips so I know what end is what. On the stand end I have a small gear tie from Home Depot that I use to keep line wrapped properly in my pocket. When at tree I uncoil it all on the ground starting with the bow clip side and as I climb it doesn't loop onto itself.

Picture didn't work for me. What is it?

Lewis, The Strapper Gear Retriever. This is the NO TANGLE way to get your equipment up to your treestand!

Ditch the rope... The Strapper is the the compact, quiet and quick way to retrieve your gear! Besides the fact that packing 30 feet of rope can take up a lot of space, using rope or twine to get your gear up to your treestand is just a tangled mess waiting to happen.

Thanks to The Strapper's 3/ 4 " webbed strap, you can easily steer your equipment around tree limbs and other obstacles. And once you've retrieved your stuff, the 30' strap quickly stores inside the reel for the ultimate in convenience.
