About a dozen years ago a couple of my friends went hunting and one guy forgot his release. He hunted anyway, assuming that he could shoot with his fingers. He took a shot at a doe and hit her but never found the arrow, any blood, or the deer. Five weeks later I shot a doe, just before dark, in the same area. You could see clear through her shout. The thunderhead actually took out an eye and exited the snout on the opposite side. I boiled the skull clean. The bone had started to heal. These are tough animals.
